The deep playa is a direction, not a place. What began as a bike ride into dusty darkness became something else altogether. This mix is in memory of all the times I needed to ride into trackless oblivion to get the fuck away from other people, and more importantly, to get away from my own idea of who I am.

Protect, short for "We Must Protect This House" is a call to action. To protect this house is to protect your inner spirit. As a registered nurse and mental health advocate, Protect is dedicated to a life of service on & off the decks. He is the co-founder of the Saint Peterburg-based dance crew & label SPS Cxllective. The Cxllective is focused on helping elevate the Florida house & dance community. It's important to them that the culture is continually pushed forward so that it may evolve & survive. Although raised in a household of junglists & techno heads, Protect has gravitated towards the world of minimal. He also runs a series called "Minimally Invasive", founded in 2019. This mix submitted for Deep Electronics is meant to showcase the diversity in sounds that Protect brings to the table.

The third night of our third burn. It was Friday into Saturday morning between 1 and 4am and the energy was high.  We're honored to share this special recording with you that captures a bit of the feeling and magic that we experienced together on and in front of the Robot Heart bus at this year's Burning Man. I was born an audiophile and have always been listening. When I was a young boy my safety blanket was a pair of old headphones and a gain knob within reach during nap times and still is after over four decades today. Theres nothing more comforting than sub sonic bass frequencies and a bouncing mid range sprinkled with a melodic high end to soothe any and every emotion. When it comes to music and audio in general, it has a way of carrying us off and elevating our spirits every single time we close our eyes and just listen. Tribal rhythm and drums is where it all started for me growing up as a local northwest native american. My tribal roots run deep and I incorporate my heritage into every set I play by layering in ethnomusic percussion, in a sense grounding my sound back to where it all began for me as a child. I am a fan of trippy, weird, spacey sounds and thats probably why I love sound design so much. Every chance I get, I am going to create a soundscape that takes you on an emotional and spiritual journey. I play music in hopes to make an immediate connection with my listener and help them to find ways to make a deeper connection within themselves. Music is my weapon against all of the chaos and animosity in this world that we live in. I hope to only elevate you while you give me your ears.
