This is my participation to the little remix challenge of "Metropole" on Amon Tobin discord ! 

I made it in two days so there is a few things I could still tweak but that was the challenge for me with the deadline !

That's pretty dark for one of my track, I'm on the dark side of the moon right now, I did put a lot of rage I have right now in this ( to let it go ).

Concerning the instruments there is modular synth, prophet 6 and a lot of audio manipulation / delays and granular stuff.

First new sounds from Futuropaco in five years. Futuropaco, a.k.a. Justin Pinkerton from Oakland, California creates colourful psychedelic music - a pan-cultural cratedigger’s delight that welcomes in a wide range of elements - from afro-beat and post rock to Italian library music and heavy psych. 

The title translates to “The Glass Fortress” and is a reference to the fragility of the superpowers of the world, such as the US: “As we witnessed in the height of the pandemic and it's after effects, it doesn't take much to take down one of these entities that hide behind the facade of power and indestructibility. One tiny crack can trigger an unstoppable catastrophe.” says Pinkerton of the album concept. “Though Futuropaco songs are instrumental I tend to channel my feelings about politics and the world through them. Unfortunately, the world can be a terrible place at times, so there is a sort of dark, at times angry, theme to these songs. But, instead of writing lyrics to convey those feelings, I just let the music do the talking."

But despite (or perhaps because of) it’s underlying dark inception, Justin’s new album is a terrific ride, from the first notes of earth-shaking opener “Muro Vuoto” to the mysterious and dreamy closer “Omicidio Per Soldi”. Not a second is wasted on this record, every vinyl groove is packed with ideas and sounds that demand attention, whether they originate from Justin’s vintage Moog synthesizers, his Turkish Saz, fuzz guitars or flute layered on top of Pinkerton’s meticulously crafted, yet bone shaking drum fills. You could spend hours analysing what’s going on musically, but that’s beside the point - the nine tracks offered here are simply an invitation to surrender yourself to the head-spinning grooves and mesmerizing timbres. A truly unique psychedelic experience, and this is just volume 1!

On Therapy, his gripping third collection for Imprec, Alexandre Bazin creates concise melodic electro-acoustic environments with ripping timbres, deep staccato sequences and a dramatic immediacy. Elements of classical, minimal techno, modular-ambient and drone music permeate this aptly titled album, Therapy, from Alexandre Bazin.

Bazin himself describes this album as "new experimental electronic music." Melodic progression, pulse and timbre play key roles in his delicately crafted work. Saturation and feedback permeate the sonic atmosphere allowing new fragments to emerge creating new melodies and tonal colors.

Bazin's sound suggests the presence of electric guitars, orchestras and acoustic instruments which are also present on this album. All but the first two tracks of therapy include acoustic instruments carefully placed in the mix.

Twin heavyweights Kevin Richard Martin (The Bug) and Joseph Kamaru (KMRU) unite for Disconnect, a powerful study of dread, hope, and profound sonics that marries depth-trawling dub with Kamaru’s voice, ambient sensibilities, and negative space.

Kevin Martin first became aware of Kenyan ambient musician KMRU “watching the short 2020 documentary Under The Bridge,” he tells us. “Which, aside from immediately finding Joseph's approach to sound and music so instantly impressive, I also found his spoken voice possessed a captivating, lilting, tonal quality, with his soft-spoken accent.” Following this, Martin dug into Kamaru’s records, and found not only a kindred spirit in skillful exploration of sonic space, but also a fan of The Bug. So began a mutually respectful relationship, initially held in Instagram DMs and reciprocal admiration for each other’s work and eventually blossoming into an invitation sent by Kevin to Joseph to collaborate on a new album.

The results - debut collaboration album Disconnect - collect a back-and-forth creative dialogue that started life in Martin’s studio. “I think I surprised Joseph by suggesting he contributes vocals,” Martin tells us. This ability to identify, isolate and exploit the nonstandard is a trait shared by both musicians and employed to devastating effect on Disconnect. Its vocals, sitting somewhere between intonation and spoken word, capture the ear and fizz with simmering power. They are indeed a surprise, coming from a musician specialising in instrumental, field recording-laced ambient musics, but tell intensely evocative stories, weaving poetry into the pair’s grandiose greyscale musical architecture.

The record is just as deep, dark, and arresting as we can expect from Kevin Richard Martin, following his acclaimed rescore of Solaris (released in 2021 on Phantom Limb) and a handful of self-released solo albums that explore a sound just as heavy as The Bug but at a menacingly slower pace. And it is just as evocative and unique as Kamaru’s KMRU canon, each object delicately and purposefully placed so the timbral mosaic builds with shimmering and hypnotic beauty.

Anansi
In ancient times, when trees spoke and rivers sang, lived Anansi, the spider god, weaver of stories and guardian of knowledge. Though small, his mind was sharper than a leopard's claws and deeper than an elephant's burrow.

One day, Anansi heard that Nyame, the sky god, kept a magic drum that could summon rain, wind, and fire. Whoever played it wisely would have power over the elements. But Nyame lent it to no one, not even the largest animals.

Anansi, curious and ambitious, decided to get the drum. Not by force, but by cunning.

First, he visited the leopard, who boasted of his speed.

"Leopard, can you run faster than thunder?" Anansi asked.

"Of course!" roared the leopard.

"Then run up to the sky and bring me Nyame's drum." The leopard ran, but was stopped by the guardians of the sky. He returned frustrated.

Then Anansi went to the elephant.

"Elephant, can you lift the sky with your trunk?"

"Of course!" thundered the elephant.

But when he tried to play the drum, the sky closed like a shell.

Finally, Anansi wove a web of words, a story so beautiful that even the clouds stopped to listen. He climbed up his silken thread, invisible and light, and whispered to Nyame:

"Oh great god, is not knowledge more powerful than strength? Is not a story more lasting than a roar?"

Nyame, moved by Anansi's wisdom, gave him the drum with a smile.

Since then, Anansi plays the drum on nights of the full moon, and each beat tells a story: of humility, of ingenuity, of justice.
