The Munich based duo Coeo are the stars of our fourteenth release. Florian Vietz and Andreas Hopfl have presented us with three original tracks with nice and special character. Closer EP is definitely a landmark release for us at Lagaffe Tales which challenges us to follow up with this new standard in the following future. The title track Closer is the star of the release. What stands out if the great percussion work and hauntingly beautiful vocal sample, whispering into our ears. As if the original track was not enough, we were lucky to get one of our biggest influences; Lay-Far to remix the track. The remix takes the percussion work to the next level and still staying true to the original mix. Lay-Far does not disappoint and makes sure that we connect memories we hold dear to the track. Mind Games is a beautiful piece with a tight baseline and enchanting piano atmosphere.  The duo bring to the table another beautiful piano sampling piece in the third track Timid Dancer. The whole EP has encouraged us to work harder and to grow in the right direction as a label.

Who better to kick off the inaugural release of SOBO [Sounds Of Beaubien Ouest] than Patrick Holland, best known as Project Pablo. Affiliated with the Canadian Riviera's 1080p troupe, as well as Seb Wildblood's Church and Lone's Magicwire – Holland now adds Beaubien Dream as the fourth instalment to his 12" series. The Beaubien connection comes from Montreal's Rue Beaubien, of which Holland is a resident. SOBO is headed up by fellow longstanding citizens of the Beaubien Ouest hood, Arbutus Records and their extended family – of which Holland is an instrumental part.

An initial teaser of the EP's opening "Closer" was aired publicly during Holland's BR London set back in October, as well as his NTS appearance with Lone and Gabriola earlier this year. Now, after a patient seven-month wait, we can finally wrap our mitts around it in its entirety. Alongside its two subsequent components, the track acts as a homage to Holland's home. With its distinctive Dx7 melodies, jingly percussion provided by bells (of the cow variety amongst others) and an insatiable groove growing lazily throughout – "Closer" is instantaneous happiness.

COEO are Toy Tonics' lead artists and they don’t joke ! Technically perfect on a level that most producers start to get jealous. Musically filled up with so much knowledge about the history of Disco and House that it’s no wonder that big names like Kenny Dope, Borrowed Identity and Tensnake are huge fans. And their style...? It’s a pure hedonistic discoish attitude that combines the funk driven eclecticism of today, the curiosity of young music cats who always want to be ahead and a sense of quality in music that we miss in so many of today's house music productions. In fact it’s 2017 and a lot is changing in the House scene. The "old" melancholic deep house now is quite dead - while most Deep House charts are filled up with sample based Funk House. COEO are regularly on the top of the several Deep House charts, and there is a reason : their tracks have that kind of new, nasty, sexualised vibe that gets more inspired from the late 1990ies French touch house or early Masters at Work production. From Jazz DJ’s and DJ Sets of wildstyle DJ’s like Harvey or the Idjut Boys. It’s not any more about the old schematic Ketamine Deep House that always sounds the same (and makes your feet fall asleep). Listen to Flesh World ! It’s black music basically. It’s Booty sound.
