The original Basement Boys production team was founded in 1986 and to date, the boys, including Spen, have remixed music for such esteemed major pop, rock, and R&B artists as Michael Jackson, Erykah Badu, Angie Stone, Lenny Kravitz, Paula Abdul, Diana Ross, Shaun Escoffery, Bob Sinclair, EBTB, and more!

For this compilation, Teddy Douglas and DJ Spen have selected and mixed the most choice King Street and Nite Grooves cuts produced by Kerri Chandler, Dennis Ferrer, Kiko Navarro, Timmy Regisford, Mateo & Matos, Barbara Tucker, Tuccillo, Kenny Bobien, Roland Clark and more! Like every end of the year we present the new volume of our Rebirth Essentials collection (which has reached number seventeenth) including our best releases of the last 12 months and some unreleased tracks.

We are very happy to see Corrado Bucci again on Rebirth, the young talented producer from Brescia, who recently released on important labels such as Compost Records, Wonderwheel Recordings, Local Talk and BBE Recordings. ‘Ma'Ashan' is a song inspired by his last trip to China, which prompted Corrado to explore within himself and to express his deepest feelings in music. Israel Vich and Ramon Perez-Prieto aka SoDPM debut on Rebirth with 'Lunático'. A new sonic exploration, a unique mix of multi-cultural sounds, mystical melodies and emotive vocals.
The argentine producers at the head of PAAX Tulum, debut on Rebirth with ‘Slow When You Dance’, a track inspired during a long trip through Spain, where they saw different landscapes and experienced tense and beautiful moments that reflect the different musical tones in the track.  Released in 2016 on the vinyl only Rebirth 100th release, 'The Pyramids' by Shield and Robytek is  a collaboration with Isabelle Antena, French singer and songwriter and founding member of electro-samba pioneers Antena. Northern Irish born, Glasgow based musician, Sad City gives us a great remix working the magic with his Subtle deep ambient style.
The italian duo based in London Chromatic Filters  evolve their sound by exploring new musical territories. Their first album captures love of experiments in house, funk and disco and includes two remixes from an highly regarded artist in the Italian underground scene: Don Carlos.
Coming from Reykjavik and living in Glasgow, ILO is back on Rebirth with ‘Piano Piano’,  a taster of his first album, planned for a release in 2021. A sublime piano suite with a contemporary dancefloor swing. Expect great things from this artist
Born in France and living in Italy Camelia is a young talented artist. After the debut this year on Rebirth she is part of this collection with ‘Crowd Love’ showing her old school roots taking you on a journey on her  deep music vision: soft pads, minimal percussions, sublte effects and sub bass that keep you moving. Boris Dlugosch & Cassara are responsible of a stellar rework of ‘Over’ of the jazz-rock fusion's greatest drummer Billy Cobham. An irresistible groove with a funky disco energy that was big in the box of djs like Purple Disco Machine, Danny Krivit and François Kevorkian.
Produced with the contribution of the legendary disco innovators Daniele Baldelli and Marco Dionigi, 'Bad Reputation' by Psycho Radio & LC Anderson is remixed by the Tel Aviv duo Red Axes: A guitar-driven acidic banger combining their post-punk and new-wave influences with a dose of psychedelia.
The Italian producer Morris T returns after many years on Rebirth with ‘Fragile’, a track that builds on an Afro rhythm with a modern electronic sound, catapulting us directly onto the dancefloor.
Hammered by Pete Tong on BBC Radio1 and loved by djs like Laurent Garnier, Carl Cox, John Digweed, Adriatique and Guy Gerber, ‘Numero 5’ by the italian dj and producer Gianluca Pegoiani was surely one of the underground tracks of 2020: an anthemic instrumental track blurring the lines between techno and soul, unpredictable and passionate.  
Mike Atom’s mysterious project immediately attracted our attention. ‘Strike’ is a down beat number that recalls the old atmosphere of Primal Scream and the dub sound of English raves. A voice that shouts the need for a revolution and change in our ecosystem. Blue Mondays, the project of Alex Ferrazzi and Keemani, is back with ‘L’Argine’, an experimental slow song that makes us travel with the mind, an introspective journey that then opens up to the whole world. And to close the selection Oxia delivers a special reprise version of Agoria's classic ‘For One Hour’ feat. Scalde. Atmospheric and emotional , timeless and melancholic !

James Curd began his DJing career in Chicago when he was only fifteen years old. Being underage, Curd was snuck into events to play at raves and clubs he was not legally allowed in. He played along side some of electronic music’s most respected acts and DJs. Through his love of DJing and music Curd began to write and produce for himself. At nineteen Curd released his first track on the globally respected label “Basenotic” out of Paris. From there Curd created “Greenskeepers”, a name to represent himself and the wide range of music he wrote and the artists he collaborated with.

As “Greenskeepers” Curd released an array of music on Classic records. He made his mark on the dance music world by infusing swing music and Chicago house to invent the term G-Swing, being short for Greenskeepers Swing. Curd focused on G-Swing and started a label by that same name to feature this unique sound. Around this same time Curd also owned and operated two other record labels “Igloo” and “Greenskeepers Music”.

Curd has released four full length albums under Greenskeepers, “Ziggy Franklin Radio Show”, “Pleetch”, “Polo Club” and “Live Like You Want To Live”. Curd has also had phenomenal individual success with releases on DFA, Permanent Vacation, Exploited, Eskimo, ETC ETC, Bang Gang, OM, Ministry Of Sound, to name a few. Curd is also highly sought after for his remixes. He has remixed artist such as Juan Maclean, PNAU, Midnight Magic, Poolside, Kaskade, Hercules & Love Affair, Groove Armada, Flight Facilities and more. Curd’s music has also been remixed by great artist like Poolside, Flosstradamus, Juan Maclean, Gigamesh, Treasure Fingers, Pepe Bradock, The Rapture, Dimitri From Paris, Flight Facilities and Derrick Carter.

Four of Curd’s songs have been featured on “Grey’s Anatomy”, while others have appeared on T.V shows such as C.S.I Miami, Point Pleasant, MTV Real World and Keeping Up With The Kardashians. His music can also be found in foreign films as well as main stream movies such as “What Happens In Vegas”,”The Vow” and the hugely successful animation “The Incredibles”. If you listen carefully, you will even find Curd’s work on BBC documentaries and American Airlines inflight radio! His work in T.V. and Film has enabled him to work behind the scenes as a music supervisor. His latest film “Crush” is produced by Intrepid Pictures and features an amazing array of artist from around the world hand picked by Curd to fit each scene perfectly.

Curd has toured the world over, renown for his energy behind the decks and his ability to make a party. Curd has performed at some of the world’s most respected clubs. From Fabric in London, The Avalon in Los Angeles, Home in Sydney to The Arches in Glasgow. Curd has also been part of festivals such as Park Life in Australia, Lollapalooza In Chicago, T In The Park in Scotland and Electric Picnic in Ireland.

Curd continues to consistently release quality new music by pushing his sound while also staying true to his roots. He has started a new band called “Favored Nations” with singer Morgan Phalen who has also worked with Justice and Phenomenal Handclap Band. The third bandmate is Sid Who?, who also plays bass and guitar for Empire Of The Sun. Curd is also putting together a mix CD coming soon on Ministry Of Sound. With Curd anything and everything can be expected. Whether it’s Rockstar Games using his song for the “Grand Theft Auto 4” Ad campaign or his latest EP sitting at number one on Juno, you never know what to expect from the talented Curd or where his music might pop up.
