Birth Of Dance

This song began its life some 20 years ago recorded on Mark's old skool keyboard workstation as a bass line and drum beat, accentuated by a synth melody playing over some electric piano. It sat as that basic version until just recently, when Mark had gotten into horn arrangements, and wanted to try some out, thus creating the impetus for reviving this old tune. Plus, he wanted to get the Eclectic Collective to play the guitar and keys parts on it for a little extra jazzy pizzazz.

He turned it over to the rest of the EC gang with a pretty clear vision of what he wanted structurally. Stephen was first up, adding his driving guitar to the fist part of every verse. Josh deftly chimed in with the response line in every verse. JJ then came into the mix last and sprinkled his magic electric piano and other keys throughout. After all of our parts were in the can, Mark went to work dutifully editing and mixing what you hear as the final product. Stephen then did his pro mastering work on it to add a little bit more shine.

This was a lot of fun to put together. It doesn't feature all of the EC, but the other guys will be on many upcoming creations. We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed creating it.

Clyde's Glide (with The Eclectic Collective)

This song began with Mark, who wanted to record an old skool classic Soul song, which he did, singing & playing all of the instrument parts on his own at first. But then, once he unleashed it onto the EC gang for their interpretation, they ran with it in a whole new, almost tropical direction, and it was decided to release 2 versions of the song - this one (the group remix), and the original Soul version (Stephen does double duty on guitar for both versions).

Ken was first up with his vibrant interpretation of Mark's original drum track. Josh was next up, replacing Mark's bass line with a more upbeat bopping take. Once the rhythm section was in place, Stephen found the perfect guitar motif which served as both rhythm guitar, and the soulful lead that suited both versions of the song.

With a solid foundation on which to play, it was JJ's turn to shine, adding his slick, rhythmic and playful electric piano to the mix. Tez added his guitar magic, ripping solo parts in the instrumental sections, and at the end. It was at this point that the decision was made to go with two versions, so Ken added some rhythmic percussion to the mix, and Mark also tested out his newly acquired VST steel drums to emphasize the slight Caribbean vibe that was emerging. With Mark completing mixing duties on both versions, it was now time for Stephen to master it in his always expert way to finish it off.

This was a real team effort,  demonstrating The Eclectic Collective's many different methods of creating music. It was a great exercise in trying to bring about Mark's vision, and we hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed creating it.
