‘BALLAD OF A BROKEN FRIEND’ – Composed by Chris Harris, ‘Ballad of a Broken Friend’ is a requiem of a tragic story told by a close friend. Everyone at some point has felt the harsh pain of their closest friend. They feel powerless in their efforts to help. They worry, stress and panic that the worst could happen. Ballad of a Broken Friend is an attempt to capture the emotions of anxiety, depression, and helplessness that we can all feel when a loved one is suffering.
The musicality of Chris Harris and Erin Newman takes influence from Blues, Soul, Alternative Rock and Story Telling. With a star-studded group of musicians providing the accompaniment, Ballad of a Broken Friend, incorporates sensual Rhodes piano, futuristic electric licks, finger-lickin’ chicken-pickin’ classical acoustic, pounding drums and endless melodic hooks.
Chris Harris – A music teacher, originally from the Northeast of England, Chris has a background in all things heavy, alternative and avantgarde. A drummer in a string of successful Metal, Punk, Grindcore and Post-Rock bands. Chris hung up his drumsticks to follow his calling to be a music teacher, community group leader and performance director. Now based at a Hampshire Sixth Form College, Chris teaches, helps, and supports young musicians and provides progression opportunities to aid their artistic development.  

Erin Newman – A former student of Chris, Erin, produces impassioned, raw, and soulful music. Erin’s debut single ‘Pick n Choose’ demonstrates her unique blend of influence from vocal greats such as Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, and Amy Winehouse. Erin is currently studying music at ACM Guildford. She has recorded at the world-famous Metropolis studio and is destined for musical greatness.

Quay West Studio – Equipped with a magnificent API 1608 Console, QWS is the musical hub for all festivals, events, and quality recordings in the Hampshire area. Run and operated by Louis Crowe and Nicholas Bowen (who both feature on the track), Quay West Studio proved to be the perfect location to capture ‘Ballad of a Broken Friend’.
