NO.SLEEP - Mix.08

1080p effectively skipped the ageing process and matured into a fine ole vintage immediately. It would be a little unfair to the rest, if we weren't so consistently blessed with beautiful, beatific jams.  I Want To Believe, a fresh cassette from Montreal-via-Vancouver fresh face Project Pablo, doesn't come anywhere near close to breaking the spell.

"Follow it Up" exhibits that same care and warmth that has fast become an indelible 1080p trademark. The jaunty track practically mewls with contentment, with gentle piano stabs, skippy drum beat and flecks of jazz in the percussion combining to something instantly familiar, perhaps played at a 1.25x pace. Throw it on and shake off the holiday gluttony.

Carhartt WIP proudly presents the first European tour of Future Brown, the Los Angeles and New York City based collective that consists of Daniel Pineda and Asma Maroof of Nguzunguzu, producer Fatima Al Qadiri, who already gained global fame with her latest solo album „Asiatisch“ and J-Cush, man behind the highly demanded Lit City Trax label and notorious New York City party organizer and promoter. Their self-titled album features a wide range of styles from US rap mutations to UK grime, dancehall and reggaeton. All futuristic instrumentals are peppered by the haunting voices of guests like upcoming Chicago based singer Tink, spicy New York voice Maluca, Dancehall queen Timberlee, experimental R&B one-off-a-kind Kelela or the deeply moving rap and beyond vocalist 3D Na’Tee from New Orleans. Together with their vocal power Future Brown manage to catalyse a cosmopolitan, experimental approach to contemporary urban music. To accompany their live dates Future Brown prepared a Carhartt WIP Radio tour special.

Carhartt WIP Radio Tour Special: Future Brown

DJ Rashad was and still is a legend.  Not only was he a Footwork and Juke pioneer but also one of the hardest working DJs and producers I've ever met.  The dude really never stopped working.  He was either globetrotting and spreading the sound of Chicago around the world or in the lab pushing himself to expand his sound further and further.  On April 26 2014 the world lost one of the most inspiring and talented artists of our time.  His spirit moves through Teklife, the dancers, his friends and everyone he has touched or influenced.

Over the past few years I've been lucky enough to collaborate with Rashad and even be remixed by him.  The tracks were never completely finished and seemed impossible to finish after he passed.  Eventually I mustered up enough courage to open the sessions and finish them.  It is what Rashad would have wanted me to do.  

"Movin' Forward" is a collection of those collaborations plus two exclusive unreleased Machinedrum tracks that were heavily inspired by Rashad and the Teklife crew.  I called it "Movin' Forward" because I know Rashad wants everyone he touched to keep pushing themselves and follow in his footsteps on the path he had been creating all these years.  I'm proud to have known him, shared the stage with him and to have collaborated with him.  May his sound and spirit continue to inspire and spread through everyones speakers!  Teklife to tha next life!!

Understand is the first track off of 'Movin' Forward',  out on Friday April 24th. 100% proceeds will go to his family and estate.

The Body High co-founder takes you higher. ﻿

A collaboration between Samo Sound Boy and Jerome LOL, Los Angeles' Body High has quietly become one of the US's most rewarding outposts for new house music. Refreshingly unpretentious, they've housed records from up-and-comers (Myrryrs, Jim-E Stack) and innovators (garage legend Todd Edwards, Jersey club king DJ Sliink) alike, as well as providing an outpost for their own productions: Samo and LOL released an album as DJ Dodger Stadium on the label last year, and Samo's own debut album, Begging Please, will be released on April 28.

Described as a "story about the last couple years of my life, told the best way I know how”, Begging Please doesn't spare on the drama or emotion, and it's an attitude that also defines his breathless FACT mix. "I recorded this mix to serve as a preface to my album and give people a little more insight as to my major influences with it", Samo tells us. "As both a DJ and producer, I've really come to prefer emotive and unusual tracks over functional club tools. I like everything to sound like the last scene in a movie, that moment right before the credits start. I'm just trying to stretch that out forever, I guess."

Samo Sound Boy - What Can I Do (BH019)

Berlin-based up-and-comer and epitome of the vibrant house scene over in the German capital, Max Graef, came to the states for his debut tour, stopping by in NYC not only to play a nutty LPH night at Output's Panther Room, but also to pop into the Red Bull studio to record an episode of LPH Radio.

We've heard from afar that Graef has a penchant for zigzagging all over the place and sprinkling his sets with jazz, hip-hop, reggae, classical, and more unexpected-for-his-audience nuggets. If maintaining that trend makes him predictable, well then he's a very predictable man indeed!

He started things off, but, a little ways in, his partner in crime over at CTEPEO '57, Emil Nyholm, a.k.a. Muff Deep, stepped in and they tag-teamed from then on.

This is a fantastic and stimulating mix; it's perfect for Mondays, but we're also sure it'll do the trick anytime on any other day of the week as well. Strap in for a beautiful journey.
