2016: the first time we talked Crazy P into coming to one of our parties...

The sudden and shocking news that Danielle Moore from Crazy P has died has set many, many people reeling and hearts breaking, ours included. There are some beautiful words online from many who crossed paths with her far more often and knew her much better than we did. They go some small way towards summing up what she meant to anyone she had contact with. A remarkable spirit, talented and hardworking for sure, but far more important than all of that - the thing that you will hear over and over and over - is that she was just a really fucking lovely, positive, genuine human being.

She always supported what we did and we will be eternally grateful for that, for all the music and for her joy and energy. As you will hear in this set, the fact that our total concession to us having a live act was throwing a stage block in front of the booth did not faze her at all. By the end of the set she was sharing it with a number of very enthusiastic individuals and... well, you just need to listen.

The thoughts of all of the What the...? collective are with her family, her friends and those who worked with her - the hole left in their lives must be truly vast. We're sending all our love to them x

Our Wedding - 07.07.18 - Eating playlist 1

Welcome to the first in my Progressive House Classics mix series, each of which will focus on a particular year of record release, somewhere between 1992 - 1996 - My halcyon years of clubbing and enjoyment of Progressive House. 

This mix was inspired by 2 particular Sasha mix tapes that I got my very young hands on in 1992, his classics Universe set and a Chuff Chuff set. It was the Chuff Chuff tape that really opened my eyes to the power of harmonic mixing, and as a tribute to that mind blowing moment I have blatantly mixed the exact 3 tunes in the exact same order than blew me away so much when I first heard them (Sublime, La Tour & Floor Federation). Imitation is the biggest form of flattery after all!

As with all my mixes, this was recorded on two Technics 1210's with an Allen & Heath Xone22 mixer via Serato Scratch Live. I used the original vinyl if I still have it, or MP3 file via control vinyl if not. No other computer trickery allowed, just as God intended. 

Hopefully the music will trigger a few tucked away memories that you had forgotten all about, it certainly did for me.

James is a Brighton/Somerset (UK) DJ, remixer, and aspiring producer whose sound has been shaped by a love affair with dance music, particularly since 1992 when he got his first belt-drive DLP1s decks. A House and Techno diehard, he's deeply inspired by the 90's golden age of House, Techno, Garage, Hardcore, Jungle, Drum & Bass, Speed Garage, Goa etc. This eclectic mix, sprinkled with modern gems, shines through in his genre-bending daytime sets and legendary crowd-pleasing nights.

Always reinventing himself with both fresh styles his commitment to quality sound is unwavering.  James is a veteran of the scene, boasting many residencies in iconic clubs like Turnmills and a long list of festival appearances (Noisily, Truck, Secret Garden, Glastonbury, Shambala, and more).

Need a dose of the unexpected? Check out his alter ego, Dr. Lames the Animal King (and his Amazing Travelling Animalarium). This sequencer-wielding, creature-loving character delighted festival crowds with animal noises morphing into quirky dance tracks.  "Different but strangely moreish!" as one late-night Glastonbury reveler put it.
