Anitya; the Sanskrit word for the concept of impermanence, refers to the idea that suffering does not last; but neither do the material comforts of life.

Anitya is the very first release from Balter Records, a label created by James Orvis to celebrate and showcase up and coming live acts operating within the house and techno scenes. 
The combination of deep Kiasmos-esque piano chords with lush modulating synth melodies creates a euphoric journey that takes the listener well over the 10 minute mark whilst managing to maintain interest throughout. The track is pinned down by the snarling mono bass working in conjunction with the simple but engaging tech house groove. The lush vocal samples, twisting fx and orchestral string layers contribute to the overall atmosphere of Anitya.

Samsara is James Orvis' second release on his own label Balter Records. The single is an obvious successor to Anitya and shares conceptual ideas that lie in eastern mysticism, philosophy and humanity. 

Samsara features a deep rolling groove contrasted with an epic synth and string orchestration, that takes the listener on a euphoric transcendental journey. James' goal was to make an emotive club track that shared qualities akin to an epic movie score, but also served its purpose to make people move on a dance floor. 

Samsara has already gained positive support from BBC Radio One, play-listed on Huw Stephens show and awarded 'Track of the Week' by BBC Introducing Humberside.

The cover art for Samsara was designed by Jessica McGowan, a Leeds based artist that shares similar subject interests with James and the rest of the Balter roster. Her work focusses on science, space and philosophy, which is absolutely fitting for the visual aspects of the label going forward.

Samsara is the cycle of death and rebirth to which life in the material world is bound.

Switch & Sucker Punch set the tone for James Orvis’ upcoming releases for 2020. Leaning towards a darker energetic sound that will ultimately inject more pace and diversity into his live sets. 

Switch adopts and mixes stylistic approaches from Breaks, Techno, HipHop and Rock, in an attempt to formulate something fresh and beyond James’ comfort zone. The production itself was a playground for experimentation, slamming sounds hard into chains of pre-amps and distortion pedals beyond recommended limits to tease out pleasing overtones and frenetic rhythms. 

Sucker Punch is Switch’s tamer techno brother, offering up a b-side that will comfortably slide into a Techno set without raising too many eyebrows. Although it’s the ‘safer’ track in respects to stylistic approach, Sucker Punch still a peak time energy booster with an infectious groove and myriad layers of well-thought-out sound design.
