Whether you're hearing a track or a DJ set, you can usually tell it's Nene H pretty quickly. In just a few years, Beste Aydin has developed a very specific approach within the realm of techno. She inhabits the genre yet colours just enough outside the lines without losing the plot—or the pull—entirely. The focus is on fun, on groove and on hooks, with sets that dip into trance, electro, ghetto house and even hints of hyperpop, tying in neon threads into techno's all-black garb. 

She's used techno as a jumping off point for orchestral and choral performances, as well as the poignant expression of grief (on her stellar debut album). She's become a regular at Berghain and groundbreaking festivals like CTM, traversing a highbrow-lowbrow line that posits that every kind of dance music deserves the highbrow treatment. Her RA Podcast is an irresistible hour of techno full of what she calls "Neneisms," turns into pop hooks amidst hulking techno beats and dips into funky, electro-informed beats.

WINTI DANSI 

WINTI is a spiritual belief which lives under the six ndyuka tribes in Surinam. The dancers prepared their bodies with herbs and are therefore able to dance through the fire. While doing the WINTI DANSI, it is possible for the dancer to go into a trance. The WINTI DANSI is only performed on special occasions. 

This mix is recorded with a closing state of mind. Powerful rhythmic tracks which connects me to my KRAKTI (Powerful) culture. Searching for a bit more edge while keeping consistent rhythms. A bit faster than the other NDYUKA podcasts but never fast for the sake of being fast. 

Just like a WINTI DANSI i love it when people not just hear the music but really feel it. To a point where you could close your eyes and connect with the smallest details without any effort.

This is my submission to the Re/Form Spring 2024 DJ Competition. I have been wanting to head out to LA to experience the parties out there for some time. When I saw the first round of this lineup announced, I immediately set out to make arrangments to go. While I have not yet been to LA for an event, the city has garnered a reputation of having one of the strongest and most forward thinking underground electronic music scenes in the US. Whether they are exhibiting artists with legendary status spanning several decades, US debuts of emerging international artists, or offering a shot at the decks to a promising local or regional DJ, the responses to their parties appear to be never short of highly revered. As such, it would be overwhelming honor and privilege to be included among the ranks of the artists booked by Dirty Epic, 6AM, and Synthetik Minds. 

Some of the artists on this lineup have been incredibly influential to me and their tracks make their way into my DJ sets on a regular basis, so this one is particularly special to me. I will be there either way, but I hope you'll support me by listening and sharing thoughts to this mix which was inspired by this party.

As a submission for a chance at an opening slot, I wanted this mix to showcase some of the deeper and more hypnotic areas of modern, futuristic techno. While it certainly listens with a considerable amount of cerebral depth, I was sure to still infuse a healthy dose of driving energy and groovy rhythm and my typical incorporation of the occasional broken beat.

REFORM Spring 2024 DJ Contest - Robonix

This is a single take, on the fly mix, recorded at 11PM on Monday night the day I returned home from The Great Beyond. I debated making this public because admittedly it took zero planning and I know that there is a mistake or two. Nevertheless, before recording the mix, I downloaded over 130 brand new tracks and threw them in a playlist for a jam with an emphasis on energy riding and hypnotic maintenance. The Great Beyond inspires me in ways I could only imagine in my dreams. I hope you are inspired by this mix as much as I was before recording it. Jim Beasley is a DJ and producer of techno and house music. Jim has been immersed in the music scene since the early 90’s; playing in bands early on in his career and transitioning into the electronic realm in 2012. By 2014 Jim was warming up dance floors in Denver clubs pretty regularly. Always having an interest in techno; his affinity for the genre gained traction at the 2014 Movement festival in Detroit. Experiencing DJ performances by Maceo Plex and Voices From The Lake (as well as a b2b performance by Seth Troxler and The Martinez Brothers) sent Jim straight into the black hole that is techno music. It was this experience that drew Jim to the darker side of electronic music. His hard work and drive to connect with underground artists from around the world has landed Jim on bills with underground acts in the late night scene. Jim Beasley looks to showcase artists in his DJ sets that utilize a wide spectrum of sounds with both harshness and clarity because beautiful sounds come in the form of more than just soft and subtle.
