Beat Goes On (Rhythm to the Brain)

A 1969 powerful politically-conscious message against Nixon's Vietnam war, and more generally about social issues of the time (still very relevant now), "Compared To What" is a beautiful jazz/soul song written by Gene McDaniels for Roberta Flack legendary first LP "First Take". The song got subsequently covered/adapted by other Jazz artists. 

In this rework, I tried to keep the gospel-flavoured energy of Roberta's interpretation, while reinterpreting it with a housy rhythmic frame. Hope you'll enjoy it!

Thanks to everyone that helped make 2014 such a seminal year for the Adult-Disco-tech-House thang. Big love to all of ya!! From the craziness of the three 2013/14 New Years eve parties, the beauty of the Bank-holiday weekenders, the privilege of performing for Kitchen Klub, to the rare touches of hearing artists such as Artifact, Dee Esquire and Ben Casey dropping some Sideways-disco stuff in packed-out places. ....And being called a "sick" DJ by a teen-aged girl... Last year had it all...... Almost!!! xxx 

BIO:
James Sideways has been involved in DJing and promoting music since the late nineties. At the turn of the millennium he started producing tunes; unable to quite find the genre he wanted from the London record shops. A decade on, the House scene has evolved naturally into the sound he originally sought. The timing is now perfect to emerge from the shadows with his style of Tech-house oriented Adult Disco music.
Before the turn of the millenium, the Free-party revolution was sweeping through the South West and audiences were less inhibited than ever before. E’s were proper and hips were swinging as laterally as the funky days of disco. When James' band Middle Earth split, the succession to becoming DJ/Producer was inevitable.
The move to 21st  century mixing with Native Instruments Traktor Scratch system proved to be an easy platform to showcase more than one hundred original tunes and hundreds more from friends and contacts made ever since those heady days of the original Free-parties. Posted here are just a few. Hope you enjoy.
