Closer, the second LP from composer / violinist Tobias Preisig, is a collection of detailed vignettes – compositions that have the feel of photos which were taken using multiple exposures. Prismatic and layered. It’s a very intimate work; not only in terms of subject matter, but also in how the violin is played and rendered. It feels as if it was recorded in “macro:" every single sound full of detail and up close. The record is the second part of a conceptual triptych. This time, Preisig decided to explore a very simple question: what does the ordinary sound like? Or, in his own words, “what do you feel when you walk through your neighbourhood over and over again? How would you address that using sound? And, with that, articulate the true worth of something that you could just as easily take for granted.”

Sunrise Synthesizer Session #9

This didn't make it to the album but has calmed me in so many ways. This is my idea of what a lo-fi track could be if I made one. Super different from all my releases, and it's yours now.

Deep breaths.

Finding names for songs can be a pain and sometimes also a bit of a stretch with instrumental music. Normally my projects are called "pop_zurich", "Ambient2.0" or "Dance1.7". Or sometimes it's the place I start the project in like "HeathrowSept", "LindenplatzLullaby" or "TowerOfPower". This is the only song that kept the project name as the song title.
I was at Jan's studio in Berlin putting the finishing touches on the album. Looking out the window I could see the full moon and I decided to start a new song just to clear my head. I had been working on the same 15 or so songs for months and felt like creating something new. By the end of the night this song was done. I didn't realize it at first because I am so used to spending weeks and months on a track that it didn't occur to me, that this could actually be finished. I just assumed I would keep working on it during the upcoming months. As the sun came up I saved the project as "FullMoon" and went home. 
When I re-opened the file weeks later I listened through the song and was pleasantly surprised to say the least. I tried to work on it but no matter what I tried I ended up liking the original version better. I had to allow myself to like something I created in a short period of time with very little effort. It is what it is. I like it. I hope you do too ❤️

Dreams I Remember

"Like Currents" emerged during a recording break, without bass and drums, just guitar and delays. In a moment of calm, the trams passing overhead and the hum of the amplifiers were suddenly audible. A few harmonics and warm chords, distorting delays. A door opened, then closed. Then the journey begins, through the city, rattling and scratching, winding through the streets. A ride through past days, past places and corners where all the stories and memories greet you. And onwards to where the future lies, into the twilight, into a new year.
