We welcome back Michelle Sparks for another EP on Tronic. This time Michelle delivered two hypnotic, minimal groovers that are made for dark warehouse raves! We recruited Chicago Loop for remix duties. His version of Mindweave adds an immersive synth sequence and a groove that reminds us of the late 90s. Great Package!

Detroit’s KING CHEETAH is here with his debut 12” for Light Body Works.  Growing up in the haze of late 90s Detroit record shopping brought about the inspiration for this record.

“I wanted to capture that moment when you put the needle down on that record that gave you goosebumps, the find you were looking for… you only hear 2 seconds and you know its for you”

King Cheetah finds the appropriate space in between sounds and harmonies, rather than all the focus on the actual sounds, all while exercising a subtle rhythmic action that can be heard down the block.

Dedication to details, attention to structure and a tireless pursuit of that specific and circular sound. The contextual element of ’Time Tracks’ seem to be placed in-between the most cordial music that Skudge has presented up until now, as well as bridging the singularity and adrenaline from the previous albums and EP’s.

We are invited into a palette of vivid mastery of details, brushes of percussion and narrowed basses that shatters deep. Pads and strings which acts as a foundation, evolves the music to a rigid composure.

A sonic narrative that seem to stem from motifs of the Earth, reflections of personal flair and moments remembered, dwelling on records collected. ’Ifach’ serves as an ode to the legendary UK imprint. Combining ’Time Tracks’ into a stark collection of studio sessions that features colleagues Daniel Andréasson (on Function) and Samo DJ (on Ifach).

One could argue that this is a territory proven to tick all the functional boxes, but Skudge manages to yet again display a highly personal take in a realm of conciseness.

Phantasy approaches it’s landmark hundredth-single release with another impactful single from one of the label’s key artists, James Welsh. Regularly played by producers from Midland to Charlotte De Witte, Welsh’s masterfully dense take on techno and electronica reaches new complexities on ‘Pan’, without ever-sacrificing his singular industrial groove.

The title track is a tunneling electroid roller layered informed by complex conversations seemingly taking place between man, machine, ghostly human speech and a veritable wind tunnel of noise. Perhaps Welsh’s finest connection yet between the blissful and the ruthless, ‘Pan’ demands submission.

On ‘Sink’, Welsh builds yet another perfectly-executed club weapon around an imaginative spoken-word sample, loosening up the tension of it’s more severe partner with a lucid and rhythmic trail of wide-eyed electro.

Since 2015, James Welsh’s contribution to Phantasy as Kamera has delivered a series of releases shrouded in mystery, injected with the personal energy of both a hardcore and club heritage. Two EPs, ‘Arc’ and ‘Ventoux’, set a distinct tone, with the latter complimented by head-turning remixes from artists such as George Fitzgerald, Throwing Snow, Truncate and Yaleesa Hall. Now, the key Phantasy artist emerges from the shadows under his own name, in order to continue his uncompromising musical journey.
