This song was released back in 1998 under the moniker name "Third Floor" which was made up of  Vocalist/Songwriter Wayne Tennant, producer/songwriter/sound engineer Donny Dasilva and Dan Liacos as executive Producer.  The was written by Chris Jones, Donny Dasilva, Wayne Tennant, and Dan Liacos.  The song was a Toronto underground dance hit and created a buzz for the group at the time. In addition to this it was pressed on vinyl and put out on the label Tang Lung Records.

Introducing Hamed Farras! The singer, musician and performer from Abidjan.

Hamed has been at the center of Ivorian reggae for over thirty years, the sound made famous by Alpha Blondy in the eighties. In 1991 Hamed released his first album Deni: named after his breakthrough track, however two tracks on his debut album never received the attention they deserve…

Chef, C'est Pas Moi or "Chef, It wasn't me" features a 17 year old Hamed singing about his friend ‘Polo’ who got into trouble with the police. Slaman Djougou is about a cultural muslim who only prays during festivities. Both tracks feature Hamed’s characteristic singing and have an infectious groove that can match any of the famous Ivorian Reggae classics.

Together with composer and arranger Georges Kouakou, who worked with Alpha Blondy on many of his projects, and Hamed’s brothers, magic was created in downtown Abidjan (see picture above). As the album Deni was only released on very limited cassette and CD copies at the time, Chef C’est Pas Moi and Slaman Djougou never saw the light of day. Until now...

It is with great pleasure to release these songs with Hamed for the first time on vinyl after almost 30 years. The release is accompanied by a stellar DJ remix by one of our favorite producers: Lipelis!

The door of the plane flung open and its passengers began making their way down the stairs onto the hot tarmac. It was a world a way from the place they'd left; every inch of the sky was bright blue and the trees that surrounded the runway were all bursting with life. All she'd ever known was the cold and dark, just harsh winters and dreary summers, all colour and brightness squeezed out of everything. She squinted up at the sun, letting the warmth bathe her whole. This is what she'd been missing; for the first time she felt like she was really living.

Dublin-based producer and DJ Jamal Sul is on quite the roll recently. Under his moniker Moving Still he recently made his debut on Palms Trax's CWPT label with a collection of original cuts, and he's also responsible for a catalogue of top notch edits that breathe new life into old Arabic gems. His next project is for Amsterdam's Disco Arabesquo and Kuwaiti cassette label Al Nazaer, which sees him inaugurating a new 12" series of edits called 'Yallah Ya Ashab', with two fresh takes on 90s Kuwaiti songs: the first a flip of singer and actor Bashar Ali Sultan's 'Omrena' and the second a rework of a one hit wonder by a band called Firkit el Lotus.

Stepping up for a special entry in the Members Mix series we have Balamii and Day Timers affiliate Yung Singh providing us with the Sounds of Punjabi Garage. Peep what he has to say about the mix and the importance of the underground Punjabi scene of the late 90s/early 00s:

“I really wanted to put together a mix that showcased the full range of Punjabi garage, from proper speedy garage to 4x4 with loads of swing, proper shuffly 2-step ,and more contemporary releases. There are tunes in here from the 90s, early 00s all the way to brand new and unreleased bits. One hour of 100% garage from 100% Punjabi producers/vocalists. 

This mix is really an ode to the late 90s/early 00s Asian Underground movement that was so important for mine and my older sibling's generation - one of the main reasons I got into music and DJing was mostly because of listening to my older siblings playing garage/jungle/house when I was growing up, with Punjabi garage my first love! “
