SILKRL063 :: Nigel Good - One Minus Space

Nigel Good's latest contribution to our imprint, "One Minus Space," is the ebullient first single from his forthcoming "Nothing Out Here" artist album. Already pegged as one of the release highlights of 2014 on Silk's calendar, Nigel's album features a diverse collection of melodies and grooves. Yet, "One Minus Space" offers a fair representation of the overall uplifting flavor that imbues the entire album.

Already receiving a great response on YouTube via an early "teaser" video, this euphonious new cut begins with only a suspenseful lead chord progression and a delicate piano riff. An energetic progressive house rhythm emerges at the quarter turn, which leads the listener into the main break. All of the melodic elements, including the emotive piano chords, reach their full crescendo at this juncture, and newly added string effects are equally climactic. In the latter half of the track, Nigel spices up the soundscape with his signature vox stabs.

Nigel Good - One Minus Space [Silk Royal]

It’s with both happiness and sadness that we see this track coming with us on PHW as we bring back a collaboration on the label between the Dutch duo Roald Velden & Morrison Kiers. It’s always  great to have these friendly and great guys with us on the label. The track in itself is a dedication to Roalds mother that sadly passed away not to long ago. As the guys asked if we would help them to get this track out for them rather quickly, we of course arranged that as fast as we could.

The track is as you could expect a wonderful journey from the Dutch duo, as they bring on their heavy artillery of soundscapes, including those melodic elements we so often seek for. Beautiful melodies, great atmosphere and laid back textures is what you will get on this wonderful journey. We do believe there is someone with a big smile on her face if you’re looking up!

Roald Velden & Morrison Kiers - Memories Are Forever [PHW141]

It’s been a few months since we last had our collection, PHW & Friends in store and we are happy to be able to present another one to all of you today, as we unleash another fine selection of upcoming artists that we are happy to give a shot on the progressive scene. Some of them you probably are familiar with, as you have seen them through our PHW imprint in the past. Though you are to see some new names on PHW as well and that we are truly happy for. 

What they all have in common is that they will present you a production each with an uplifting and “feel good” vibe, the progressive way that we always seek for.

We do hope you will enjoy returning artists such as Polish ace Bee Hunter, Russian long time PHW server Vasiliy Goodkov, Blackluster and Angelo K. We are also happy to introduce you to the new names in our family, as we have great music coming from US bound Zeni, Canadian artist Minicied, Jonas Hansen, a collaboration between Andrei Niconoff & Hoova, Polish rising talent CJ Seven, Korean producer Sunny Terrace and mentioned above Angelo-K teams up with Sellenda for a smooth and melodic sun-drenched progressive production.

Australian producer South Pole brings us an exceptional body of work here in the form of the Keep Your Heart LP.

Starting off with the epic, soundtrack-inspired title track 'Keep Your Heart' which exudes honest emotion and power with crashing drums and dramatic orchestral strings, things are quickly set in to dance music fashion with the laid back 4x4 beats of 'Beneath Our Starlit Sky' and the chirpy, funky sounds of 'Till The Dawn'. 'Meteora' takes things back down with smooth, airy vocal parts and silky, chorded synths and with extra attention to detail on dynamic percussion, 'Cloudburst' shows Sam's ability to craft constantly-enveloping, soundscapy progressive. Hitting a mid-way point in a sophisticated fashion is 'Holding You' which features cool, twangy picked guitar melodies and warm synth motifs. 'No One But You' is sharp and tightly-produced with echoing vocal cries that provide the outer coating for euphoric guitar lines and tantalising, balearic-style plucked melodies. Raising the tempo once more is 'One Last Glimpse' which plays on melancholic melodic themes and blows them up in to epic proportions with wide, reverberant musical layers and chunky, driving drums. Further utilising acoustic instruments amongst traditionally electronic elements in 'Shine', a blissfully positive atmosphere is created with a great "hands in the air" main section. Rounding off this unique artist's stunning LP is the closing track 'Ascension' which tugs on bittersweet emotions with captivating "wah wah" guitar parts and thick chords along with punchy drums and interesting arpeggios and electro-style wobbly FX.
 
The sunshine-ridden melodies of South Pole's 'Keep Your Heart LP' will no doubt be a winner amongst fans of summer-sounding progressive and colourfully-arranged dance music.

The icy throes of February melt momentarily to usher in LTN's first 2018 release, "Black Hole," which showcases the same emotional depth conveyed in his previous release, "As Tears Go By." Through his deft production, LTN consistently sends us on journeys that probe the depths of our mind and soul. On this release, the Indonesian sensation teams up with versatile veteran Stendahl and inimitable singer-songwriter Arielle Maren to form a unique trifecta of vocal progressive bliss.

"Black Hole" begins with thin percussive hits that steadily climb toward outer space and quickly launch us into orbit. The gorgeous vocals of Arielle Maren, which soon follow, carry with them the somber tones of forgotten connection. Followed by Stendahl's polished piano keys, we're lulled toward the halfway point, a nebula of spacey bass rhythm. The culmination of ethereal vocals, piano, and aural soundscapes form an emotional gravity that pulls on both mind and body, until Maren's final vocal hook eases us back to the ground. 

Latvian duo Blood Groove & Kikis return to the spotlight, offering an upbeat, if not euphoric approach. They transform the original introspective space journey into an energetic indulgence. Gushing snares and a thudding bass form the foundation upon which multiple layers stack. A bold analog synth pad gradually morphs into trance keys as the song reaches the quarter point. We've now fallen headfirst into the infectious composition, punctuated by Arielle Maren's brief vocal interlude. Stunning textures offer a lush backdrop for the lively beat that eventually deconstructs in the closing minutes of the arrangement.

The exceedingly promising Australian progressive house talent Elypsis contributes an atmospheric and poignant rendering. His iteration unfolds like the intricate latticework of a crystal, backed by the icy inclinations of Maren's vocal cuts. A steady, resonant bass hums throughout, nudging even the most stolid listener into movement. Beautiful melodic accents fall with the delicacy of snowflakes, and melt away amongst the rhythmic elements. The emotive piano themes carry the listener to the song's final moments, where we're left with remnants of the song's chill contemplations.

Aeron Aether, celebrated veteran composer and longstanding mastering engineer for our imprint, has released dozens of beloved singles and remixes in his illustrious career, including collaborations with the likes of Matt Darey and Mango. Ten years in the making, his debut album, "Landscapes & Dimensions," finds the Hungarian virtuoso in peak form. A champion of various shades of house and trance, as well as a pioneer of the melodic progressive breaks genre, Aeron continues to test the boundaries of sound design, all the while showcasing his unique brand of forward-thinking, cinematic, and emotive electronic music.

Aeron's eclectic, yet consistently beautiful (if not ethereal) debut album comprises over a dozen extraordinary tracks, including four standout vocal numbers with Simon Latham, Sean Darin, Sebastian, and Krister Linder. Other album collaborators include Bobalino, Retroid, and fellow resident sensation Terry Da Libra, who lends production support to the album's breathtaking first single, "Hope Unchained." Born and raised in Paris, Raphaël first took interest in music production at the age of 16, finding musical influence in the hip hop and lounge genres. Over time he began to explore the more electronic side of music, finding inspiration through artists such as Mango and Dinka, which eventually led him in the direction of producing melodic and progressive house. Once finding his stride, he soon decided on the alias of James Woods, a simple combination of two names that have stuck with Raphaël over the years and seemed a fitting alias to go by, thus James Woods was born. Releasing his first track in March of 2011, James quickly began signing new productions, gaining a solid amount of followers and support in what most would consider a short amount of time, thus firmly establishing himself in the progressive house community. Since March of 2011, James has had over 50 releases on multiple different labels, spreading his signature melodic sound far and wide to all corners of the world. Currently James’ true signature sound lies within the progressive house genre, delivering a strong trademark style that delves deep into the melodic and emotional aspects of this universal genre. On top of his passion for progressive house. With so much amazing support and so many great things on the rise for this amazing talent, it’s not hard to see why James Woods is a name that many recognize as a leading purveyor of quality melodic sounds  in the progressive house community.
