Make Music Denver

Raging Colorado wildfires have destroyed more open mountain space, structures and people’s lives in May and June of 2012 than in any other recorded year.  It is an absolute catastrophe.  Statewide over 200,000 acres have burned.  In the Colorado Springs area alone, nearly 40,000 people had to be evacuated, only to watch on TV their homes and communities being threatened and in so many tragic cases, burn in the firestorms. 

Watching live TV coverage of his hometown of Manitou Springs, CO being evacuated with one hundred foot flames coming over the hill, Jock Bartley, lead guitarist Firefall, picked up his twelve string guitar.  The urgent chords and first verse came right away and the song ‘ANOTHER FIRE’S BURNING’ was born.  Four days later the Waldo Canyon Fire changed direction in 70 mph winds and soon engulfed entire Colorado Springs neighborhoods near the Air Force Academy.  Watching those emotional and hellish nighttime images, he finished the song.

Two days later Jock called studio owner and Producer, John Macy, to discuss what might be done with the new song.  The immediate idea was to get as many top Colorado musicians and singers to participate in a collaborative recording and donate 100% of the money to the fire victims and the heroic firefighters. Within 24 hours, starting with Jeff Hanna (Nitty Gritty Dirt Band), Richie Furay (Buffalo Springfield &amp; Poco), John Magnie (the Subdudes) and Kenny Passarelli (Joe Walsh, Elton John, CSN and Hall &amp; Oates), dozens of Colorado entertainers were on board.  Within the week, with everyone donating their time and talents, the song was recorded and mixed.  Most people sang or played at Macy Sound Studios in Denver; a few emailed their parts in from other states, including Big Head Todd &amp; The Monsters calling in their recorded parts from their bus on tour.  

This finished musical product is our gift the world - it is our effort to raise as much money as we can to help those most in need.  That immense need will last long after the fires have been put out.
