With this record, The Como Mamas join forces with the boys of Menahan Street Band (billed pseudonymously here as The Radiant Rhythm Band) to lay bare the funkier side of gospel music. 

“The rhythms we all play were already right there in their vocals,” explains drummer Homer Steinweiss, “so it felt natural to lay down the grooves behind them.” Thomas “T-N-T” Brenneck, the up-and-coming producer who brought us both Menahan Street Band and Charles Bradley, presided over the collaboration, which took place in the old Dunham Studio in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

On July 31st, Deuce Eclipse and J.Lately will be releasing their debut collaborative album "The Setup". The album finds the duo rapping over hard hitting boom bap beats with intricate lyrics touching on current social and personal issues. Despite some of the heavy content, the two emcees maintain a positive and lighthearted perspective throughout the project. With a sole feature from Zion I, the album has the feel of a classic group project, where the emcees trade bars, build concepts together, and at times even switch from English to Spanish, or from rapping to singing. 

Today the duo is sharing the lead single, "Caught Up", which is produced by Jamie Way. The first verse finds J.Lately telling a story of how easy it is to let certain distractions get you into a sticky situation, while on the second verse Deuce Eclipse adds his wisdom as he explains how he's learned through experience to avoid these type of situations.

Keep your eyes and ears out for more content from the album dropping weekly as we approach the July 31st release date.

Jamie Way is the sound of contradictions, filtering melodies through light before sending them screaming through a wringer of bourbon gruff with a 5 o’clock shadow. He’s the sound of a disgruntled drummer covered in ash banging out his twisted renditions of top 40 hits. You know that familiar sound of hot dogs roasting over a blazing fire? He’s that, but the fire is on your couch. It’s finding comfort in an awkward situation. It’s a sense of deja vu that never really happened. What we’re getting at is that there’s something about Jamie Way that rings a bell, it’s just a very dirty and distorted bell.
