Solid Grooves unveil their 2022 'Ibiza Sampler' as Michael Bibi and PAWSA invite seven of the label's residents and regulars for a huge summer offering.

2022 is shaping up to be a year to remember for Solid Grooves as they celebrate ten years in style with a host of stand-out shows, including OFF Sonar and Kappa Futur, alongside recent appearances at Space Miami, Fabric and Printworks.

However, the crown jewel in the programming undeniably comes via their biggest Ibiza season to date. With a move to renowned institution DC10 backed by lineups stacked full of talent, the collective only adds to things on the label front as they reveal their latest summer compilation. Opening the season in style, the nine-track 'Ibiza Sampler' welcomes the arrival of a stacked V/A with fresh heat from close friends and ever-impressing regulars.

In usual fashion, co-founders Michael Bibi and PAWSA contribute a pair of heavily-requested signature cuts, alongside peak-time and after-hours anthems from residents Dennis Cruz, Eddy M, Reelow, Ramin Rezaie and Bassel Darwish, plus label signees Classmatic and JUST2.

Toby Simpson readies his debut release for Jamie Jones’ Hottrax with the three-track ‘Fulfilled Fantasy EP’.

Owner and resident at the Liverpool-based party Express, Toby Simpson’s music has picked up support from the likes of Jamie Jones, The Martinez Brothers, and Marco Carola, even before dropping an official release. Now readying his first EP for Jones’ revered Hottrax imprint, the DJ/producer from Merseyside brings three bumping tracks. 

Across the release, Simpson draws for heavy low-end, skipping drums, and vocal chops for three club-ready tracks. From the trippy FX on ‘Feedback’, the rumbling basslines of ‘SuBBazz’, through to the mammoth samples on ‘Sugar’, the EP is a considered package sure to set dancefloors on fire all summer and beyond.

A collaboration between two talents who initially broke through on the White Isle several years ago, Jamie Jones and Darius Syrossian deliver the We Bring It EP on Jones’ seminal label Hot Creations. It’s not the first time the duo have co-produced together, with previous releases like Rushing and Eyes Of The Night displaying their dynamic approach. Their latest release brims with bright melodies and club-driven energy. 

Syrossian shines a light on his creative partnership with Jones. "It's always a pleasure doing collabs with Jamie. He has a very good ear for dancefloor-orientated tracks, and I love his attention to detail when it comes to structuring a track. We both bounce off each other really well." Syrossian admits that both tracks have been rinsed already, much to the delight of discernible dancefloors worldwide. "Both these tracks have equal elements of our individual sound. We made these a while ago but held them back as they were made especially for the Ibiza and festival season. After playing them at the beginning of the season, they have more than passed the road test." 

The title tune unfurls with chunky kickdrums and a chopped-up, speedy vocal sample that winds between a thwacking bassline. A touch of tribal percussion bounces throughout the track, reflecting the Balearic vibe for which Jones and Syrossian are celebrated. On The Best Thing, a stabby synthline breaks up a wavey and tripped-out soundscape. A vast bassline dominates, with a rave-ready feel that shimmers throughout the track. 

Jamie Jones is the co-founder of the label Hot Creations and the worldwide event series Paradise. The Welsh DJ, producer and curator-extraordinaire lives in Ibiza, where the essence of the island contributes to his atmospheric and club-driven musical output. Jones’ signature style conveys a sun-kissed, spirited mood that compels his audience, whether he’s headlining Coachella or Glastonbury. Darius Syrossian is a trail-blazing artist with a back catalogue to match. The two-time Essential Mix talent has released on labels like Moan, Defected and his own brainchild MOXY MUZIK. He’s a cherished name on the Ibiza and UK circuit, pouring his soul into his work while holding down several residencies along the way. Syrossian cares about good music and even better vibes, giving back to the culture that shaped him as an artist today.

This three track features phenomenal ‘Change’. Jamie has championed it all summer and as soon as you hear it you’ll realize why. It’s a heady hypnotic brew of oscillator-funk and ghetto-groove, arpeggiating synths bubble hypnotically under the rising ebb and flow of the melody as infectious groove drives you on.. the truth is we are all going through changes!

 
On the flip and Jamie jacks the groove on the ‘Road To The Studio’. Incessant chanting and looped vocals are cleverly layered upon each other creating a impending sense of explosive anticipation as the rhythm effortlessly builds to maximum effect. Finally, the irresistibly charming ‘No Rush’ plays upon retro garage feel while the minor keys serve to create a sense eeriness on the floor. A great closure to a superb three track EP, and what a way to kick off the new label in style. Watch out for HOTTRAX releases in 2013.
