Madrid native Dennis Cruz makes his Solid Grooves Records debut with three rumbling cuts including a remix from fellow countryman Wade.

Since his debut in 2010, Cruz has become a staple in Beatport’s charts, not to mention the sets of artists such as Marco Carola, Joseph Capriati, Nicole Moudaber, Yousef and Roger Sanchez. Throughout this time the likely producer has dropped releases on Saved, Deeperfect, Stereo Productions and Kinetika, not to mention his very own imprint Lemon-Aid Music. He now arrives on PAWSA & Michael Bibi’s Solid Grooves Records, joining the likes of Wade, Kuo Climax and Rockwell & Landers for an exciting second year for the label.

Initiating with the sound of a roaring crowd, ‘See Line’ was produced with the dancefloor in mind using thudding kicks, arcane vocal samples and an energetic rhythm. ‘Heads or Cruz’ is a more low-slung number with a focus on a killer groove, whilst ‘Bienvenido’ engages in a medley of percussive elements geared for peaktime antics. Tying the package together, Wade remixes ‘See Line’ to give it his signature twist whilst ensuring the heady vocals reiterate throughout.

Kicking off what’s set to be a huge year for him as an artist, Franky Rizardo’s ‘Same Man’ sets the tone for an upcoming year of new material. Somehow achieving the improbable and balancing his touring with consistently strong productions, plus his own Flow radio show and parties, Franky returns to Defected to take things up yet another level in 2017. 

Sampling a 1983 rare groove track ‘For The Same Man’ by B Beat Girls, Franky’s version is all about the groove-laden house beat, designed for building up the dancefloor before that unmistakeable and catchy-as-hell vocal hook drops just shy of the track’s midway point. ‘Same Man’ is destined for dancefloor destruction and has become the most sought after record in Franky’s sets.

Analog Beat (Stas Drive Remix) is first and is a stirring and emotional roller coaster build on grand, sweeping melodies and patient, slow burning drums. Betoko goes for a more thumping minimal remix of Gravity that has punchy kicks and claps scattered around the mix. It is dark and edgy while Click Click 'Goes To Hollywood' Remix keeps you locked in a groove, rocking back and forth on rolling rubber drums and creepy alien voices. Last of all, Plexor (Luigi Gori & Larsun Hesh Remix) is another spine tingling track with epic synth work and slow, patient grooves that really cast a spell.

Dark, pulsating, you can almost smell the Palo Santo as Ritual burns with ceremonial flair. Moody basslines blended with shamanistic arpeggios conjure a rite of passage in this evocative track. Lending from the Sanskrit word to gather together, Gana catalyses a certain furthering of a common goal: which is to revel in the low-end rhythms and atmospheric vocals of this track. Driving snares accentuate the spooky vocals of Tribe, a distinctive and complex track which invites you to explore a common culture of textured, technicolour rhythms. On The Way steps out with intention: punchy drum beats gather momentum as atmospheric synths and twisted frequencies remind us that the pleasure is in the journey, not the destination.
