This work is meant to evoke a character drama between the unconscious mind and its own thoughts. The mind starts in haze, it's dreams and memories floating about aimlessly. Reality then enters, and gives the mind context with which it can sort its thoughts. But the further the mind explores, the more similarities it sees, and the harder it becomes to distinguish the dreams from the memories. Finally, in desperation, the mind shuts down, attempts to rebuild itself. But is the conclusion one of success, or of failure?

Dreaming of Water (3rd performance)

With poetry by Jamie Bloss from her collection by the same name as this piece. Performed by the Kent State New Music Ensemble in the spring of 2011.

This work takes Jamie's poetry and removes phrases and even words from the context of structure, and recombines them into an atmospheric conversation between three narrators. The music gradually evolves over time with the atmosphere of the conversation and at times against it.

Idyll for Woodwind Quintet

Jamie is a transfeminine, queer composer (she/they). They apply various aleatoric techniques to create music with variability from one interpretation to another while still retaining a core soundscape for each piece.

She counts e.e. cummings, role-playing, Star Wars, Sailor Moon, and a fascination with nature and space as her primary influences, in music and pretty much everything else too.
