Veteran English DJ, prolific producer, and label boss (of multiple imprints), Lee Coombs has been making waves in the underground for over 30 years. With productions ranging from house and techno to breaks, electro to funky grooves, it is no surprise that Lee's set is as wide ranging as the cuts are deep with a strong presence of his signature sound.

"Gunita’s tavern was a blast! More like that dream house party with friends we all love rather than a huge event. I have known Gunita for 20 years+ from our San Francisco shenanigans. This made it all the more special. The main floors at Brooklyn Mirage are very large but it was a breath of fresh air to find the stairs that led to Gunita’s Tavern! I played an eclectic selection of edits and tunes that i knew would rock the NYE floor. Acid and Electro, New and Old school all night long…"

GriffinGrrl x Audio Angel - The Unveiling

Excited to release my set from LIB 20-Year Anniversary!  Every LIB experience for me seems to top the last.  

This year was special as I hosted Camp Tropical for the first time and had my daughter, Cerise, there for the first time since 2019.  And it was LIB's 20th year, and a brilliant one!

Huge thank you to the Flemming Brothers - Jesse, Dede and Josh and team for producing the Fest, to Patricio Motta for producing the Junkyard Stage I played on, and to Todd Anisman for the ChinoSound!

I always put a lot of effort into my LIB sets, and this year no exception but with the extra challenge of extra responsibility x 2 - organizing a Tropical group camp, and caring for my daughter, who made a few visits to the DJ booth during this set as well.

Honestly I did feel a little less focused that normal up there and wasn't sure how I was going to feel about my set when I got the recording.  I'm a harsh self-critic but I actually love this mix as much as any of the 6 others I've played at this lovely fest :)

I definitely play with a certain aesthetic at LIB, which is to honor the crossing of the underground and mainstream in my own way.  I describe this set as banging and uplifting, with carefully chosen vocals.  I mean a festival is a celebration, and this just year 2 out of the pandemic I'm definitely favoring uplifting over dark.  

Ok, I do favor that generally, but same time I am processing some darkness over the past 2 years as I've experienced huge losses.  Last year's LIB I was processing the recent demise of my marriage, while this year I was processing the loss of my mom last September.

Recently in our West Coast underground music community we have lost some very special people and there's been a lot of sadness over that, especially this past week.  

One of the very best tools for processing loss is of course music and dance - I hope this set brings you light and joy in these challenging times <3

As part of our up coming 'Ten' project (which celebrates ten years of MC Shureshock and I having worked together) we are digging through the digital crates to find a bunch of old mixes we have done. This first one is a personal fave of mine. It's a mix I did for a magazine called 'Remix' in 2000 and was one of the first 'official' mixes I ever did. It may be from 2000, and it may now be 10 years old, but damn the beats still sound fresh! Oh and this was pre-Ableton days! i.e. it was done by mixing records together on two Technics turntables and a mixer (via pasting a hundred million takes together mind you!). After finding her way to her first underground in 1995, Jamie James quickly realized she was not only a raver but a dancer down to her core. From that point on she has danced her way through life, knowing the dance floor will always be a sacred and therapeutic space to hold her. Feeling extremely grateful to have found the rave scene at such a young age, Jamie decided to start helping to produce parties in Seattle, Honolulu, San Francisco and Austin. In 2007 she joined forces with her beloved Strategik crew, known for their out-of-this world, marathon renegades and signature breaks vibe. True to her heart, Jamie worked hard to keep a variety of other genres flowing throughout each lineup, especially drum & bass. In 2016, twenty years after her first party, Jamie finally decided to jump in and learn to mix. That’s when DJ J’amie Ma Vie was born. Becoming a DJ has been one of the most humbling experiences Jamie has ever had. Experiencing first hand the amount of time, energy, and love that goes into creating a musical journey continues to blow her mind. As a dancer Jamie has always held a deep appreciation for DJs, but taking a chance and learning what it’s like to be on the other side of the decks has expanded her understanding and respect for DJ culture exponentially. While Jamie enjoys playing multiple genres, drum & bass stole her heart in the late 90’s and will always be her favorite to throw down. When she’s not behind the decks you can find Jamie handling operations for festivals and events all over the world, including The Envision Festival, Symbiosis Gathering, Sunset Sound System, LIB, Dirtybird, BoC, Unison & Sanctuary.
