Vanotek – No Sleep

In the sizzling summer of 1977, OBIISSS founder Billy Noknees found himself at the height of disco fever, ready to unleash one of his most outrageous and unforgettable tracks: Lost My Pubes on the Dancefloor. Recorded during a whirlwind session with producer Nigel "Groove Master" Teastain, the song was intended to be a fun, funky anthem for the dancefloor. Little did anyone know it would become an instant cult classic, though for reasons no one could have predicted.

The session began like any other, with the band locked into a tight groove, while Billy delivered his signature blend of funky beats and offbeat, slightly inappropriate humour. The lyrics, which described an incident of dancing too hard under the disco lights and having an “accidental wardrobe malfunction,” had everyone in the studio in fits of laughter. Billy, never one to shy away from the absurd, leaned into the ridiculousness of the track, his vocals oozing with confidence as he belted out the chorus: “Lost my pubes on the dancefloor”

While the song was undeniably catchy, the recording session wasn’t without its drama. Nigel, always the professional, tried to rein in some of Billy’s more, let's say, “explicit” lyrical choices, fearing they might be too much for even the most liberal of dance clubs. But Billy refused to tone it down. “This is disco, baby! We leave nothing behind, not even our pubes!” he famously declared.

The result was a high-energy, infectious disco track that had the potential to become a mainstream hit—if not for its controversial content. Radio stations refused to play it, and the single was pulled from store shelves after some truly scandalized reviews. Despite this, the song gained a cult following in underground clubs, where dancers embraced the wild, carefree spirit that Billy had injected into the track.

Long thought lost to the censorship of the era, a surviving copy of Lost My Pubes on the Dancefloor was rediscovered in a forgotten crate of vinyl in a dingy record shop basement in 1994. The record was covered in dust, but the music? Still as cheeky and infectious as ever. We've since given the track a full AI remaster, breathing new life into this disco oddity.

Presented here Remastered with the magic of Ai, Lost My Pubes on the Dancefloor is ready to reclaim its place in music history. A little too risqué for its time, but a disco anthem for those who like their grooves with a dash of ridiculousness. Enjoy the track that almost got lost in the shuffle but is impossible to forget!
