They kick it together a lot in the South side of Melbourne, but you probably won't find them in the mall, or the beach, it's much more likely however, that you'll find them crammed into studio spaces across the city, making music since as far back as they can remember. When it comes to music critics, musicians themselves are always the toughest to impress - so you know you’re doing something right when you’re consistently named as a favourite amongst your peers. 

This is the case for Melbourne-based I’lls (pronounced ‘isles’), who returned to the spotlight late last year with their long-awaited two-track “Fifty-Phiphti / Asakusa”. Following a year of writing and reflection, the release dropped in October via Solitaire Records - with the band’s new direction garnering them an influx of blog and local radio support.

2015 will see I’lls build on the swell they’ve generated with the release of their third EP Can I Go With You To Go Back To My Country. Again showcasing the band’s ability to create forward-thinking electronic soundscapes, it touches on “a feeling of confiding in others to feel at home, emotional self-insufficiency, and the inability to be content while independent”. Again giving the band the opportunity make use of modular and classic synthesizers and unique sampling and recording techniques, it’s a record of deep reflection and intrigue. I’lls themselves state that “the EP is heavily influenced by late 90’s UK garage and a generation of musicians and producers who blurred the lines between dance music and art. It’s about making music that had both a brain and a heart."

Commencing their association in 2011, the trio have built their reputation on the back of two stunning EPs, with their debut Thread followed by the critically acclaimed 2013 release A Warm Reception.

When the infectious club bounce of Perth producer Sable’s breakthrough single 'Feels So Good' hit the airwaves over the Summer of 2014, it marked a significant shift in Australian electronic music. Marrying the jersey bounce & club crushing production chops of then break out stars like Ryan Hemsworth & Nadus, with an undeniably Australian polish & sheen. Sable spent the rest of the year on multiple country wide tours, ushering in a new era of Aussie club music that came to include the likes of Basenji & UV Boi, & set the stage for Australian radio's introduction to the hyperactive blissed out pop music of Lido, Cashmere Cat, and more.
