The Sound Of Sophias I Urban Bistro (Live 10-03-‘24)

Hey there music lover!

Every first Friday of the month we kickstart the weekend a tad early @ Sophias in Leeuwarden, mainly because we can ;). Longer sets are inevitable, and how I love having a go at those! 

As every music collector and DJ knows, Friday is also release day! Loads and loads of new bangers just waiting to be discovered, bought, downloaded, analysed, prepped and played. This May, after months of teasing, Sofi Tukker finally dropped their highly anticipated gem "Throw Some Ass". I was absolutely hooked from the first bit of lyrics: "Hey doctor... can you give me something stronger? I tried everything you offered, but I'm still in pain." Brilliant! Since this track is really explosive, bass-heavy and all-together a bit out of character for the trademark 'Sound of Sophias", I knew I had something to work towards, and it took me nearly 8 hours (an honest and full day's work indeed ;)) to get there, but I did! And my oh my... what a ride it was!!! I invite you to re-take the trip with me, and I can only hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did. 

Though, with many things considering music, it's best enjoyed live, so be sure to come and visit us this summer @ the City Garden of Sophias, Leeuwarden. I promise you won't regret it! Groovy vibes, delicious food, the best cocktails in town, and of course a top notch DJ team ;).

When you come across the obvious outlier in this set, please keep in mind: 30 minutes before I played that bittersweet love song, it just so happened that the voice and brain behind "Door de wind", Miss Montreal, strolled into our Bistro with a group of 20 friends... :O, and I made a silly decision whilst being a bit starstruck... :P

The Sound Of Sophias (03-05-'24)

Welcome back music lover :)!

I was looking forward to this particular Friday, with a passion. The company my younger sister had worked for (and the stepping stone that got me my residency at Sophias), situated in one of the office buildings above the restaurant, threw her a sending-off party in the place to be. Fully themed: "The summer is magic!" 

The sun was shining, all was well... but... five minutes prior to my intended first track it started raining mercilessly. We moved indoors, they were placed far from the inside booth and the group in front of it were... well... not the party-starters I planned for. 

So, from 16:00 until 19:30, I was struggling, changing up styles, trying to lure these people into doing a few request, but I might as well have been air or an uninteresting plant to them; no interaction whatsoever. 

Normally, I don't take a break on the extended Friday's, but I felt that it might just do me well today. After a bit short of an of hour relaxing and recalibrating, I dropped back in. The not-so-much-fun group was gone, the vibe changed for the best, and I had a blast. I'm pretty sure you can hear it in this recording; the second half of my set on a Friday in May '24, at my homebase: Sophias, in Leeuwarden.

Hi there music lover :)!

I was honored to be part of Enrico & Valerie's celebration of life and love @ the illustrious REM-eiland, a beautiful landmark in Amsterdam, with an opaque history of radio piracy...  ;)

Together, we dived deep into the Eurodance-revival and it's closest cousins. A hot night with lovely people, great vibes, and that kind of building energy that you only find amongst truly dedicated dancers! Needless to say: I loved every second of it, and now I hope you will too :)!
