Earth lives its life regardless of people, regardless of our activities. Earth just lives, and storms change calm, dawns follow dusks, flowers’ bloom ends up with exhausted trees’ withering. Earth lives and slowly transforms mountains to plains, then slowly fills the plains with water. Thousands years later the seas die and turn to deserts, spaces without water but with myriads of pieces of shattered matter. In a new sand sea, myriads of withered grits heat up under sunlight and get scattered by the wind around the world. 

The Wanderer’s first sees inanimate and stopped time. By the second glance, he learns The Great Simoom and storms of the sands driven by hot winds. And then The Wanderer accepts this essential, unquenchable, and enigmatic Life that exists everywhere and do not need the presence.

Layers of obscurity

This track was created on Madtracker (and later Fruityloops) to commemorate Gagarin's 1st trip to outer space on the Vostok spacecraft, more than 50+1 years ago from today. Thanks to Vlad, Darek, Lukas and for the sampled speech (and Patrick Stewart opening prelude sampled from StarTrek the New Generation) and me of course (with late nights fuelled by good beer), and the imagination of those who have brought the cosmos closer to our consciousness.

DISTANT FIRES BURNING
The creative work of Gert De Meester from the town of Battel (A suburb of Mechelen, Belgium, at the confluence of three rivers). Gerts musical outlet always represented a very diverse palette of musical genres. He started out as a bass-player for rock, thrash, funk and pop bands including: The Hindu Needle Trick and The Seven Laws Of Woo. Elsewhere he was creating electronic music under aliases The Mental Attack and Reverend Basstorius' Intergalactic Funk Experience. 

In 2007 Gert started to experiment more with ambient and it became clear that Distant Fires Burning was the vehicle for a very personal expression and one in which the bass guitar re-entered as the primary source. Distant Fires Burning is Gert’s expression through bass - enhanced and manipulated to create a very unique and personal sound.

FOR THE LOVE OF…
This album has been formed over the past two years and is more centered around the Fender Jazz Bass. Most of the tracks are made entirely with the jazz bass & digital effects.  It is ambient, but it has more rhythmic elements in it. There are elements of post rock and subtle psychedelia a sense of flow and exploration.

Distant Fires Burning - Mountain

A special gift this Christmas in the shape of a remix I create of 'Enjoy the Silence' with my own IDM twist. This was mainly written for fun, testing a new audio workstation.
