My voice memos are like a diary, lots of little songs that go nowhere, making it up as I go.  Expression in the moment of the feeling.  Occasionally it just flows into something that encapsulates that moment and feeling, in a way that could never be written down or recreated in a studio. It might not make sense to anyone else, but it does to me.

Wild, not so fun fact about this song — 
I freestyled the original base vocal while living in an apartment that had extremely high levels of toxic black mold. I was getting sick constantly and having a ton of health issues, not knowing why at the time. Looking back, I believe the lyrics were my subconscious mind telling me to get the hell out of that apartment! 

“Somebody take me away” and “I can’t be here no, I can’t stay” .. all these years later, knowing now that it was the mold making me sick, I see the lyrics that flowed so freely from me at the time as a legit message from within. 

Black mold is a neurotoxin that is smaller than the blood-brain barrier, can cause brain fog, confusion or loops, and health/ nervous system issues — explaining the feeling of being stuck in a loop, and “something’s eaten away at my brain,” another lyric in the song. Moral of the story: mold is the worst! And more importantly, I’m going to listen closer to my deep instincts that come out in songwriting. If you made it this far, thanks for reading :)
