So wonderful to dance our way through a perfect summer's evening before gathering around a beautiful fire created and tended so lovingly by Valentina, down to the last embers ✨
With thanks to all who came and helped to make it so magical including Susie and Martha for helping out, and Sarah Gay for introducing me to some gorgeous tracks that I incorporated into the set, including the sublime Bloodflow by Grandbrothers ❤️

Another magical evening at the Baths in Hackney Wick with the Ecstatic Dance UK community!

A recording of my live set excluding the warm-up, also missing Kinbana's drumming and Khavita's beautiful, healing voice at the end. I played a sweeping, emotive and ethereal set using a blend of music genres from electronica to organic, melodic, afro house through to techno; warming body, mind and spirit on a cold winter's night.

A power-hour of dance following a long (somatic awareness) warm-up at my new event, Feel Moved, in a beautiful new home in Dalston. We even went full-on psytrance! And I felt I had to revisit the Safe/Heroes tracks I included in my dance at Ecstatic Dance Brighton on Sunday - loved bringing in these tunes towards the end, when emotions were running high...

Recording from our first session in the woods this year!
So wonderful to dance amongst those trees, through the setting of the sun and the rising of the moon, and then to come together around the fire: a real opportunity to experience a sense of oneness with nature 💃🍃

I felt this set captured the potent, ethereal quality of the night. 
I started the recording after the gentle warm-up so we're straight into the beats, with the gorgeous Bila by Nopi.
I then revisited a handful of lively Afro/latin tracks used at Ecstatic Dance Brighton last month - I hadn't shared a recording of this so it felt good to put them in here 🙌
And towards the end I loved weaving in Tripswitch's remix of Rooting for You by London Grammar.

Dancing Freedom in the woods April 25

A recording of my Feel Moved ecstatic dance in our beautiful Dalston home -
Plenty of old favourites with a sprinkling of new sounds, a softening and deepening in the middle before the beats return, then towards the end I've added a recording of my own words spoken over Above & Beyond's ethereal track "Golden"… they landed well in the moment, and I wondered how they might sound after the event. It's not perfect, but I'm pleased I pushed myself to give it a try.. feedback welcome!

Feel Moved April 25

Channelling a musical love letter from Alex to Lauren: a journey through magical moments and memories, with a few flavours of my own to weave it all together..
This project brought me a lot of joy: wonderful to celebrate you dear Lauren, and all the love that you bring into the world ❤️

For Lauren with love

Celebrating Beltane in the woods with plenty of Celtic influences weaved into this live DJ set, featuring some of the wonderful artists from these lands including Sam Lee, Carrie Tree and Susie Ro, having heard her singing live at Mira Khanya's beautiful Earth Day Movement Medicine ceremony just a few days beforehand.
I was also happy to bring in Sasha's remix of Flutes by hot Chip, which I first heard played by Seth Newman well over a  decade ago in the early days of his own ecstatic dance journey, then the Age of Love, an old 90s favourite.

And of course I will always keep coming back to Shadows by Dee Montero, one of my all-time favourites.

Thanking all who came and danced, and helped create the magic: it felt really special to be back in our beautiful glade, now bursting with bright green Spring foliage.
Hopefully there'll be more over the coming months.

Dancing Freedom Beltane 25

Recording of my live set for Ecstatic Dance UK, at the Baths in Hackney Wick on Wed 14 May  (excluding the facilitated warm-up and healing sounds at the end)
Thanking Richard, Grant and the team, and all those who came and danced - I'm still feeling the love that filled the room!

I threw in a few old favourites including William Orbit's Water from a Vine Leaf and towards the end Rollo's Love, Love, Love here I come: always such a vibe :)
Then on to Braxton's The Summit - a new favourite that held us all a little longer in that ecstatic state.

Ecstatic Dance UK May 25

A recording of our dance in the woods on 29th May - a gloriously warm evening, with a lovely group of dancing friends old and new.
Thanking all who came and especially Mina for choosing to celebrate her birthday with us!
Mina selected two lovely tracks that I included in the set:
Deep in my Soul - 16BL and Baz Lurhmann's 90s classic Everybody's free (To wear Sunscreen) - good to revisit that one..
Some new personal favourites of mine included
Voice Recognition feat. Leo Wood (Trilucid Club Remix) - Quivver, Dave Seaman, Trilucid, Leo Wood, Ewan Hoo's Army
And Symphony by Eynka towards the end - a moment of euphoria, dancing with Ayavaa and her beautiful white ribbons!

Dancing Freedom 29 May 25

A recording of my live DJ set in the woods on 26th June, with thanks to all who came and danced. The woods were looking majestic, so luscious and green: the perfect natural ballroom. 
And bathed in the warmth of the glorious evening sunshine, it felt right to play a slightly more mellow set than usual, still with some lively peaks

Highlights include Grandbrothers' We Collide (thanks to lovely Sarah Gay for sharing) and one of my all-time favourites, Pocket Piano, dedicated to wonderful festy queen Brigid, after we danced to it together in the sunshine a few weeks back, in our field of love ❤️

Dancing Freedom June 25

Lovely to revisit the memories of this beautiful dance, which I left feeling full of love and gratitude for these opportunities to gather together and bring the woodlands to life!

Special highlights include the Brutal Delux remix of Tallulah Rendell's "Radiate love", which I followed with "Box Fresh", an old favourite produced by the multi-talented Tripswitch (Nick Brennan)

As usual I cut out the start and end of the dance rather than include without my voiceover..

Dancing Freedom July 25

Such a joy to fill the woods with our dancing energy again and then to gather as a community around the fire. I'm so grateful to who came: it all felt so alive, uplifting and potent in many beautiful ways. ✨

This was the first of two woodland dances in three days, the second being for Tribalheart in Queens Wood, Highgate, on the Saturday night. I loved the different vibes - of the two, this one was a little more soulful, with a softer haitus in the middle.

I think the only tunes I used for both were the iconic "Age of Love" followed by Harry Romero and Jessica Eve's "It Hurts" which felt so perfect for the woods as the darkness descended, and I couldn't resist including them again. 

Next dance pencilled in for Thu 4 Sep - come and join us ❤️

Dancing Freedom August 25

Thanking all who came and danced with me in the woods - another beautiful and memorable evening!
Feeling the shift in energy as we move into Autumn - the wind picking up a little, a few leaves on the ground, a hint of showers, and some glimmers of evening sunshine before darkness set in.

Lots of musical highlights - going with the theme of letting go, the beats kicked in with the DTO remix of Alexa Sunshine Rose's anthem - I release control.
Building through some organic house old favourites, we shifted up a gear with another old favourite - Experiments (Black 8 remix) by Antrim.
And as the darkness closed in, we journeyed deeper, before finally rising back up to a euphoric peak as the fire was lit.
The image shows the bright green headphone lights bobbing up and down around the fires as we danced to Ona by Romain Garcia, before landing with the soulful Father by Hiatus.



Dancing Freedom September 25

Recording of my live set from last night's wonderful dance in the woods 

The music for this set fell together naturally, and it felt exactly right for us: plenty of energy as we entered the darkness, with some mystery and magic thrown in

We lit the fire to Octo Octa's "Spell for Nature"-

"There's a light in the centre of the woods
A bright fire seen from the trees
They're around it gazing into the flames
She's brought us here.."

And we sat round the fire at the end to Jon Hopkins "Sit around the fire" with the beautiful voice of Ram Dass 

"There once was a fire
And for some of us
There seem as if there are only ashes now
But when we dig in the ashes
We find one ember
And very gently we fan that ember
Blow on it, it gets brighter
And from that ember we rebuild the fire
Only thing that's important is that ember
That's what you and I are here to celebrate
That though we've lived our life totally involved in the world
We know
We know that we're of the spirit
The ember gets stronger
Flame starts to flicker a bit
And pretty soon you realize that all we're going to do for eternity
Is sit around the fire"

It felt like the perfect grand finale for our woodland dance season.
Will wait to see if the weather gives us the chance for an encore



Dancing Freedom end Sep 25

Live DJ set played at the launch of One Heartbeat, a new ecstatic dance event I've founded with DJ Amaya Garcia. We are excited to be offering Saturday morning dances at the beautiful Sanctuary in Shoreditch. 

Thanks again to all who came and made it such a memorable first event - my heart is still full to overflowing!

The recording starts after the warm up, and builds through tribal rhythms to shake out tensions, and to open our hearts for some poignant moments of emotional release, with the Autumn theme of letting go. The drum beat then calls us back into movement, and on towards a euphoric high with the whole room erupting into the joy of fully letting go into the present moment - one pulse, one heartbeat.
Then on towards a gentle ending, with all lying down to fully relax and integrate the experience, before coming together in a closing circle.

Highlights include:

Layer by Layer - Savanna, beautiful medicine for the soul.
Avalon - &ME, that amazing, powerful drum beat: it's over 5 years since I was blown away hearing a DJ play it at a friend's party. It felt like the perfect moment to finally unleash it in one of my own sets!
Ultraviolet - Solarstone, a track I stumbled upon recently and was so excited to share at the end of the second peak: pure ecstasy!

Looking forward to the next event on 15 November.


One Heartbeat October 25

Thanks to all who came and danced in the Scorpio new moon with me: it felt pretty magical!

Highlights for me included a chill version of Josh Wink's iconic "Higher State of Consciousness" that I first came across in his home town of Philadelphia, back in 1994 - the big acid version we all love came out the following Spring..

And a more recent favourite - Boy by the amazing Solarstone.

A more intense ecstatic dance journey, soaring through progressive house and on into trance before landing gently 

I loved sharing a longer and slightly lighter version of this on Friday 28th November at Social Yoga in Hackney Wick, before launching into full-flight with this version amongst friends on Saturday...

These dances are a gift from my soul to yours ❤

Dance has become a part of me and shaped who I am. My passion for dance stems from the 90s, when I first discovered London's vibrant house music scene. Looking for opportunities to dance without all the associated pressures of a big night out, I discovered the legendary YMCA club in Soho, with its lively sober-rave vibe featuring a range of aerobics classes. Before long I had qualified as an aerobics teacher, and used my evolving DJ skills to mix the soundtracks for my own high-energy, choreographed classes at the club.
Following the birth of my daughter I left clubbing and aerobics behind, but over the past 15 years I’ve embraced London’s ever-expanding world of Conscious Dance, and for the past 5 years I have been facilitating my own ecstatic dance sessions. My facilitation is underpinned by over a dozen years of training in a gentle yet profound yoga-based somatic awareness and movement practice which emphasizes tuning in to physical and emotional sensations, fostering deeper connections with self and others. I am known to inspire nourishing, energising and joyful experiences on the dancefloor.

My live DJ sets include a blend of music genres from tribal beats, afro, latin, organic, progressive, uplifting house through to techno. I intuitively weave powerful rhythms and harmonies to help you journey through your emotions, shake off physical and emotional tensions and move towards a rich sense of wholeness, of connection with yourself and others. 
 
My Dancing Freedom fundraiser events are held in a beautiful woodland glade, using silent headphones. More info can be found here:
