Free P putting faith into collaborators early on in their careers as their first engineer

Supa Bwe recalls the growth he's experienced by sticking through tough times and never giving up.

"My career always moves forward. I don't even know. I'm just trying to keep working."

On never giving up and getting better: "Everybody told me to stop...I'm glad I didn't stop"

Supa Bwe on leaving his job as a waiter at a restaurant. "I can make $1000 with one email now."

Self-sustaining in music: "If you're not finna do this forever, what are you doing?"

He went to Columbia College in Chicago for one semester to learn audio engineering, so he not only raps and produces his own beats, but also engineers all of his music. 

After working at a studio called The Jungle for a year, he saved up enough money to purchase the studio’s backline and create his own studio for Hurt Everybody. They were cranking away nonstop and Freddy says the motivation was thrilling:

“I went crazy, just off the dreams. I was like ‘I have a dream’ and went crazy.”

Supa Bwe recalls the steps he took before he committed to music full-time

Supa Bwe shares how his relationship with Twista developed.

Sunny Woodz first introduced Twista to Supa Bwe's music before they eventually met, bonded and collaborated. Supa Bwe says says being at Twista’s studio feels like recess because of the space and vibes that allow him to feel creative without burning himself out. He says he never expected to be working with a veteran rapper like Twista whom he grew up listening to.

"That’s what Hurt Everybody was built on. No bravado. This is just music. This is pain, this is love, this is life, this is mud. This is the mud you walk through every day."

"This country's about to do a lot of growing...it's okay to hurt and feel."

He particularly wants to explore the parts of music where pain and hurt aren’t as readily shared because of social pressures to be hypermasculine. 

“A lot of guys act invincible, but it’s not true. That mentality comes from being hurt,” he says.

On creating "Sleeping on Gold" from @1993parkave

When making this I wanted to make something that felt like how you feel when you sleep next to someone you love. The bed feels more comfortable, you rest easier and nothing seems to matter. At first I was gonna call it "Sleeping With Gold" but that was too simple. "Sleeping On Gold" goes a little deeper and shows that that person next to you aren't just great themselves, but they also make everything around you great.
