Vajra Guru mantra of Guru Rinpoche also known as Padmasambhava, who said in the 7th century,  ”When the iron bird flies, and horses run on wheels, the Tibetan people will be scattered like ants across the World,
 And the dharma will come to the land of the Red Man.”

“If a physical form could demonstrate the benefit of even one recitation of OM AH HUNG VAJRA GURU PEMA SIDDHI HUNG, the entire earth would not be sufficient to contain the merit. 

“All sentient beings who see, hear, or remember this mantra will definitely be established in the ranks of the masculine and feminine awareness-holders.”

Having established this for the benefit of beings in the future, I am hiding this treasure. May it meet with a fortunate child of mine in the future who has good karma.

This album was recorded in Singapore and London in between Khenpo Rinchen's teaching engagements. Teaching and leading retreats has increasingly occupied his energy and time. He has successfully started many Buddhist centres around the world in Palyul tradition of the Nyingmapa School
Over many years Khenpho Rinpoche has felt that songs and music from spiritual sources has greatly inspired and benefited him in meditation and daily practice of the Buddha Dharma. In this way through song, music and mantra Khenpo Rinpoche hopes it will benefit others around the world as it does for him.

The recording of the Dalai Lama singing this ancient mantra "Maha Mrityunjaya" of the Rig Veda was taken with the permission of the Dalai Lama to one of his students. At first he refused, but then he agreed, but said the mantra should never be sold, but must be passed in vain. If you would like to share this with others, please continue to include this note.

Zuerst verweigerte er, doch dann stimmte er zu, sagte aber, das Mantra dürfe niemals verkauft werden, sondern müsse umsonst weitergegeben werden. The morning Buddhist chants, as recited by the international Shambhala Buddhist community, offer a sweeping view of the central teachings of Buddhism.  These chants are recited every morning, and are a condensation of the essential teachings of Buddhism.  

The liturgies themselves are dense, and are designed to remind the student of the most important teachings of the spiritual path.  By reciting them daily, the student is repeatedly exposed to the central messages Buddhism.  The scope of these chants is vast, and the material unpacked in these talks cover a wide array of topics -- from emptiness, devotion, lineage, mahamudra, meditation, supplication etc.

This is the first in a series of talks I put together on the morning chants. This first talk is about setting the View. This concept of View is very important in our tradition. It denotes a sense of vision- of where we are going. In fact Right View is the first of the Eight Fold Noble path in Buddhism.

In these talks, I strive to make these daunting liturgies accessible.  Through lecture and discussion with those attending these talks, I bring these ancient liturgies into our modern lives, and reveal their power and profundity.

In Southeast Asia (but not Sri Lanka) it is also customary to chant passages
from the Abhidhamma, a group of cryptic texts for specialists that appeards to have a ritual function in the ceremony.

This recording was made in Canford Crematorium, Bristol, UK (1999).

Buddhist Chant 6: Abhidhamma

Merit can be generated by way of listening to the Dhamma and donating
robes to the monks. This merit  is offered to the dead and the act is symbolized
by pouring water from a cup into a bowl.

This recording was made in Sri Lanka (1998).

At the end of the funeral ceremonies, verses from protective Suttas are chanted in
Laos and Thailand.

This recording was made in Vientiane, Laos (2007) as part of the AHRC funded 'Bristol Buddhist Death Ritual Project'. The project was carried out by the University of Bristol's Centre for Buddhist Studies.
