After half a year of VGM covers and experimental chiptunes, I decided to bring back FamiTastik and gauge my learnings during these months. Following the spirit of Vol.1, FamiTastik Vol.2 is a collection of stories yet untold and sceneries yet unseen narrated through videogame music.

Music made entirely with Dn-FamiTracker using the VRC6 expansion chip (without using any samples in the DPCM channel) and no post-processing whatsoever, apart from some gentle volume leveling and limiting. The .nsf file containing all of the compiled tracks is included with the album.

This is my contribution to the soundtrack for Super Slime Arena, a cute multiplayer party fighting game set to release sometime this fall. The soundtrack is a compilation of 16-bit style tracks from 14 different composers (Slime Girls, Red&Green, Jean of mArc, and many more). They've done an amazing job, so I'm really proud to be a part of it!

Chiptunes = WIN is a blog (https://chiptuneswin.com/) that covers most of what falls under the "video game music" umbrella.  They release compilations of chiptune music selected out of submissions sent to them.  Then, for each main comp, they get a different record label or collective to release submissions that didn't make the original + some new songs from the collaborating label's musicians.  Since DESKPOP's roots are in chiptune, we were more than happy to participate!  This compilation is an excellent showcase of what VGM has been, and where it could go.  We have a free download on Bandcamp, with streaming on Spotify/etc soon.  Enjoy!

What happens when you feel like an outsider in both academic and pop music worlds? For Serlöf, the answer is to build a bridge and bring audiences together. Inspired by 90’s videogames soundtracks, science fiction movies, and Internet culture among other things, the Mexican-born composer clashes every musical idea stuck in his head and creates colorful, genre-bending electronic music that also brings orchestral colors to the table.

I made one album in 2016 called "Picnic". https://tbkgao.bandcamp.com/album/picnic

The world of Chiptune was sparkling to me at the time, both to see and to hear, and that's where I wanted to make an Evergreen album that expressed the happiness I'd gained.

The following year, when I started playing live and participating in the community, my weaknesses were often exposed and things didn't work out, so I didn't have as much hope for Chiptune as I used to.

But over the past few years I've seen the scene change and I've become more hopeful. I started writing songs again with a fresh mind and the result is a new tracks.

With the release of "Picnic (Deluxe Edition)", I hope you can enjoy it again.
