Looking Up At The Clouds - On Piano

Asked to sing at the funeral of an old friend who had passed away unexpectedly and far too young the first and last lines of the song came to me as  I was deciding what to sing. The rest of the song then wrote itself. Originally performed with acoustic piano in a small chapel in rural Sweden I have added some orchestration for this recording.

Too many things still  to do
Too many questions unanswered
All of them waiting on you

Too many chances untaken
Too many hills unclimbed
Too many plans unfinished
Now we’ve run out of time

So now here we are
And I just don’t know
How we came this far
With no place to go

As we used to say
We must seize the day
But plans were left to the future
As the present slipped away

I know today we should celebrate
All your glory days
A world of love and laughter
And the family you raised

Life has  had its ups and downs
The bitter and the sweet
But you always came up smiling
As you got back on your feet
 
But there’s too many unwritten stories
Too many visits unmade
Too many missed conversations 
Not enough memories laid
