One of rather few sets I REALLY am irked about missing hearing live. Grateful to get to experience you at Karrusel in Aug, however.

It’s been 3 weeks, and I’m still vibrating - still a little incredulous about playing live at Kater Blau, a venue that has been on my bucket list since it was still called Kater Holzig. It’s home to so many great artists I admire, a place that has long extended its magic beyond Berlin’s borders, and I am so honored to have had the opportunity to fill it with my music. 

I’ve been thinking about putting my live set together for a long time, so when the opportunity to premier it at Kater knocked on my door, it was crunch time. 2 months to conceptualize, dissect, render, rehearse - most of that time was spent on figuring out what doesn’t work. Many times I thought about changing to a DJ-Set instead, but ultimately, and last minute as always, I got to a point where I felt comfortable enough to take it out of my little garage studio here in Brooklyn all the way to my home country’s capital. 

These two hours on the Heinz Hopper floor went by lightning fast, and it all feels a little dreamlike still. Of course it wouldn’t be a live set without a few hiccups here and there (see if you can spot my „launching a whole scene, instead of just one clip“-mistake in the early part of the set haha), but I think that’s what makes it come alive in the first place. I learned so much from this experience, and got back to my studio/garage with plenty of ideas on how to grow from here. I want this to be a malleable work-in-progress, evolving together with me - unique, non-repeatable, moment-capturing, responsive, alive. 

Thank you to everyone to came out and got hot and sweaty with me on the hottest weekend in Berlin, literally and figuratively. A warm welcome indeed.

thank you sooo much for the opportunity to play at your event! thank you for your trust, your support and your kind words. i have no words left to describe how i felt while opening my beloved hopper floor :') big thank you to all the lovely dancers and to my friends who came all the way from passau to celebrate with me. dancing in the confetti rain and meeting all those strangers and artists who inspire me was just GREAT.  

this is kind of a wild and chaotic opening set and you will find a few imperfections in it because i was so nervous that my hands were tooo shaky to beatmatch properly :D but i can tell you, i had the time of my life <3

After a sunny trip to warm Miami to see Magician on Duty, today we head all the way back to the south of Bavaria. In Passau, Lisa Luka welcomes us with her danceable interpretation of her Afterhour. But more on that later.

We came across Lisa Luka through our friend https://soundcloud.com/maria-theresia-von-eberg, who highly recommended her to us. What can we say? In one word: captivating. Her sound focuses mainly on the dancefloor. In terms of tempo as well as in the transporting mood. With this sound, no leg can stand still. And yes, that's exactly what we need in these icy temperatures outside.
Her mix is a fabulous blend of laid-back and exceedingly sun-filled organic dance music with a touch of deepness. After just a few minutes, you can't stop smiling. Even better, because you lose yourself in the Lisa-Lukas‘chen sound cosmos in the blink of an eye. You easily forget all the problems around you plus you will be teleported back to the festival season without any detours. 😊...wonderful. 

As the set progresses, it even picks up more and more speed, but without going too over the top.  After all, we are still at an afterhour. Although some like it wild. But not here. Although maybe a little bit. But that's a matter of opinion.  She skilfully combines in her story different subgenres of house, deep house, techno and dark disco music to a coherent journey in the end.

In addition to the mix, we didn't miss the opportunity to ask Lisa a few questions that we don't want to withhold from you.

➥ What are your musical influences? What is your musical background? 
 
I just don't want to and can't commit myself to that, because I rarely think in genres or choose my tracks accordingly. I simply listen to and play what I like or what I feel, and that can really be ANYTHING.  Mostly I like it groovy, cheeky and with a nice rolling bassline. In my sets you can also find a lot of vocals and guitars, but I can neither sing nor play guitar. :D What inspired and influenced me a lot on my musical journey were the endless nights at Kater Blau about 10 years ago, I would love to turn back time! 
 
➥ What do you think makes a good afterhour? 

Well, it's definitely having lovely people around you, the vibe just has to be right :) Apart from that, I love to dance a bit more at afterhours, so good music is super important to me! It can be a bit of everything, a few old tunes that make you nostalgic as well as tracks that you might not otherwise listen to and then discover and connect with at that very afterhour.
 
➥ What thoughts would you like to share with us about your mix?
 
Don't forget to go home :) Even the best afterhours come to an end and at some point you don't miss anything anymore! It's best to leave when it's at its best.


Fasten your seatbelts!  Because a journey awaits you that is just made for an afterhour.

Die bekannte Aussage, sich in der Musik verlieren zu können, trifft bei den beiden Faultieren eigentlich immer voll und ganz zu. Profitieren tuen sie definitiv von ihrem unnachahmlichen Track-picking und den samtig weichen Übergängen, die jedes einzelne Teilchen erst zu einem harmonischen Ganzen verschmelzen lassen. Wie ihr merkt, sind wir große Fans von ihrem Sound. Nicht umsonst fiebern wir jetzt schon einige Monate ihrer Interpretation der Afterhour entgegen, die wir euch heute endlich präsentieren dürfen. ✔️ Was sind eure musikalischen Einflüsse? 

Wir sind Beide von klein auf musikalisch durch unser Elternhaus geprägt.
Dazu legt éner seit knapp 20 Jahren Vinyl auf und Stelze spielt seit Klein auf Saxofon in verschieden Combos und ist mittlerweile seit 15 Jahren an den Decks.
Wir sind absolute Musik Fanten, etliche Künstler/innen und unterschiedlichste Musikstile prägten uns auf unserer Laufbahn. So viele , dass wir sie hier nicht alle benennen können.

✔️ Was macht eurer Meinung nach her eine gute Afterhour aus?

Freunde, Gemütlichkeit und Sets aus den Faultierdisko bzw Deep&Smooth Podcast Serien :)
….Außerdem, irgendwann ist auch mal Feierabend! Faultiere schlafen gern! :D

✔️ Welche Gedanken mögt ihr uns zu eurem Mix mit auf den Weg geben?

Wir erinnern uns gerne an die schönste Afterhour, die wir gemeinsam erlebt haben. Es war éners Geburtstag und wir spielten das Closing Set im Mensch Meier bei Mytic Creatures.
Eine Wahnsinns Stimmung, Sonnenlicht flutete den Floor, eine magisch Energy! Wir spielten das erste Mal b2b und merkten wie gut wir an den Decks harmonierten.
Auch unser Afterhour Sounds Set wurde von aus abwechselnd erlesenen Lieblings-Tracks b2b im Studio des JAZ e.V. Rostock abgemischt.

Sweetest of sweet people,
 
It's taken us a little while to fully process what happened on Sunday but now we've had the time to recover from the madness that is Fusion Festival (you too, we hope??) we're realising just how much this gig meant to us and how happy we are with how it all went. Thank you to everyone who was there, who waited the extra 40 minutes while we battled with some technical difficulties, who cheered, sang our lyrics (wait, what?!) and danced with us. You were so supportive and after the first couple of songs the nervousness was almost gone and we could just enjoy sharing what we love together with you all. THANK YOU! You peeps are just great. <3

So, without further ado, here's our live set on the Velvet Soup stage at Fusion on Sunday night. Unfortunately the quality of the recording isn't great (where's the bass?!?), and we actually had to re-record a couple of parts at home due to an issue with the accordion microphone picking up the sound coming from the speakers, but we tried our best to play it exactly like we did on the night and blend it in smoothly with the original recording.  We are proud and happy and we hope you like it!

& so here it goes...

despite battling a really intense illness through the Burn, my heart was warmed by the magic that flourished during those two hours.

thank you to the curious souls who filled the tent with warmth, movement and deep appreciation for the music.

& to the crew at the motherf*cking queens for the nourishing space.

✧ The Motherf*cking Queens ✧ Afrikaburn 2024

It was early October and the witch’s forest was full of energy since the arrival of Ishola, the African wizard who is also Hekske’s fiancé. Ishola is a wandering wizard, which means he’s always travelling around on foot and only comes to visit the witch’s forest a couple of times per year. But during these rare occasions, the forest really comes to life, while the two lovebirds are having a very intense time together. This time, the wizard stayed for 8 days and 8 nights and during this time, the forest went through a spectacular autumn transformation, with the leaves of the trees changing from green into all kinds of shades of yellow, orange and brown. And simultaneously, countless different species of mushrooms popped up all over the forest, while squirrels were busy collecting nuts for the winter. On the 8th day, a gentle wind started to blow through the woods, making the leaves fall in droves. All the animals and birds stopped their activities to look in awe at this colorful spectacle. And when all leaves had fallen, it suddenly became very quiet in the forest. Ishola sensed it was time to move on. He kissed goodbye to his beloved little witch, and continued his journey around the world.
After this teary goodbye, Hekske slowly came back to her senses and rushed to the center of the forest, where Falke (the 10-year old witch apprentice) and Lalita (the Asian tree nymph) had been waiting for her. They were very excited and pointed at the little oak tree (which is only 3 feet high but is destined to become the future mother tree of the forest ecosystem). Then Hekske saw it too : the tiny tree was glowing up with a pulsating pink light, just like a heartbeat. This had never happened before. Hekske, Falke and Lalita spontaneously made a circle around the little tree, holding hands. They closed their eyes and felt the pulsating energy enter their body, giving a pleasantly warm feeling inside their chests. And when they opened their eyes, they were amazed to see that they were able to see each other’s heartbeat as a pulsating pink glow through the white fabric of their long dresses.
This was a moment of pure magic …
