Backtearer & Why Be - dc

The ‘dc mixtape’ takes the form of an oneiric suite, moving through expressive registers alternately liturgical, pastoral, and diaristic. Why Be and Backtearer recorded it between Copenhagen, Berlin, and Hong Kong, and the resulting beatless vignettes bear traces of their disparate recording contexts as a kind of aural sediment, accumulated across a jagged multi-continental procession. Following their collaborative track “Freedom Amph” on Backtearer’s 2015 LP ‘Swear’ for Berlin’s YYAA Recordings, this is the two artists’ first full-length release.
