Every year for the last ten years or so there is a 3 day industrial/ebm festival held at Smartbar/Metro called Cold Waves. For some reason, even though Smartbar is open from 10-4 (or 5) they never book acts before 11 or after 3. Historically they've just had a spotify playlist of industrial hits playing to fill the unbooked times. The last two years, the illustrious and talented staff of the club has stepped in to DJ. This past September I played a set every night. Here are those three nights compiled in to one mix for your enjoyment. I really tried to push myself on this one to play a lot of music that I listen to but have never played and combine things that wouldn't necessarily be found together.  Enjoy!

A lot of people know that Chicago is the home of house music and also a hub of industrial music. What many don't know is how much they overlapped and cross-pollenated.  My favorite story from this years Cold Waves was after Patrick Codenys of Front242 finished playing a really excellent set of industrial, EBM and techno I went on and started my set with Moscow Disko by Telex. He was absolutely blown away by how people reacted to the track. He said to me, "They're actually dancing to this?!" He could not believe that these industrial kids in America were getting down to some Italo. He didn't realize that even the hardcore goths had been inundated with house and disco just by coming up in Chicago. He was so excited that he told his partner in Front242, Richard23, who had a dj set the following day about it. When Richard showed up to open up the the evening at Smartbar, he played an entire set of almost all Italo. I can't say that it went over as he would have hoped but he very much had a blast doing it and I had a great time listening.  Only in Chicago.
