About the artist: @dj-nirso

Rodrigo Fonseca (aka Nirso), got his music degree in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and spent more than a decade playing with bands, musical groups, and also DJing. Nirso started making remixes and edits in 2014 so he could play all the South American, Latin American, and African music styles he had discovered. Not long after that, he began creating and making his own music, combining his different musical backgrounds with electronic beats, digital percussion, space synths, and deep bass.

At the same time, he released a great number of original songs and remixes that were put on compilations and EPs by labels all over the world. In addition to making music, he was always traveling the world as a DJ.

Rodrigo Fonseca (aka Nirso), se formou em música em São Paulo, Brasil, e passou mais de uma década tocando com bandas, grupos musicais e também como DJ. Nirso começou a fazer remixes e edits em 2014 para poder tocar todos os estilos musicais sul-americanos, latino-americanos e africanos que havia descoberto. Pouco tempo depois, ele começou a criar e fazer sua própria música, combinando suas diferentes origens musicais com batidas eletrônicas, percussão digital, sintetizadores espaciais e graves profundos.

Ao mesmo tempo, ele lançou um grande número de músicas originais e remixes que foram colocados em compilações e EPs por gravadoras de todo o mundo. Além de fazer música, ele estava sempre viajando pelo mundo como DJ.

“The idea behind this selection is to bring back little-known versions of hits re-recorded by Brazilian divas. Female vocals, classic drum machine beats, and the texture of vinyl rips set the tone for this powerful compilation, filled with unbeatable dancefloor edits and reworks.

The contrast between female vocals and the heavy beats of classic drum machines has always captivated me. In my aesthetic obsession, I stumbled upon versions of hits interpreted by Brazilian singers from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. My challenge was to add punch and movement to meet contemporary dancefloor demands while preserving the original sound of the music. I focused on the steady, punchy kick drum of classic house music, along with the percussive elements of disco music and Latin rhythms.

The spark for this compilation was a discovery made during an afternoon of digging in São Paulo with Lucian Fernandes. The track we found was "Ela Dança Como Nunca Alguém Dançou," a version of 'Maniac' by the group Harmony Cats. The version was already great but needed some adjustments to fit smoothly into a set. Just one night in the studio with Beno was enough to create the first edit for this selection.

Lucian also contributed two other gems to the EP, 'Eu Vou Te Amar,' a version of 'I Will Survive,' and 'Sou Sempre A Mesma,' a version of 'Smooth Operator.' Another nugget for the compilation was 'Eu Queria O Seu Amor,' a version of 'My Cherie Amour,' rediscovered by Bossa with an acapella for us to play around with.

The other songs were YouTube finds, but after treatment and edits, they became as special as the physical rarities, hitting the dance floors perfectly.”

Nepal is one of the most influential names in the Brazilian music scene. A true digger and selector. He’s also a longtime friend of ours, always spinning our tracks and sharing music back and forth. It was just a matter of time before we teamed up on a track.

Today, we’re excited to drop our edit of "Mama" by the legendary Rio de Janeiro artist Agepê (Antônio Gilson Porfírio). He’s an icon, though sometimes underrated in Brazilian music, who left behind an incredible legacy.

The original track is a masterpiece, so taking it on was no small feat. To add that extra groove, we brought in Pedro Botafogo to lay down some acoustic guitar and cavaquinho.

Hoje, temos a grande honra de apresentar nosso edit de "Mama", do grande artista fluminense Agepê (Antônio Gilson Porfírio). Uma figura icônica, embora as vezes não muito reconhecida da música brasileira, que deixou um legado triunfal.

A música original é uma obra-prima, então foi um grande desafio que aceitamos. Para adicionar mais ainda ao groove, convidamos o Pedro Botafogo para gravar violões e cavaquinho.
