This is a brief project that I completed for my Into to Electronic Music course at UT. This went on to serve as the basis for the first movement of my Soprano Saxophone Sonata (2018)

Two Moods (Quartet for Four Trombones) (2011)

This was the finale project I created for my sophomore year Electronic Composition project in May 2014. It uses filtered and pitch shifted recordings of the ambient sounds of boiling water and the winter air as a drone topped by wisps of sound I created with a synthesizer on Apple's Logic Pro to create the base of the piece. A simple piano melody emerges and slowly develops over the piece, creating a somewhat desolate atmosphere. The rustling of leaves serves as an occasional touch. Listening with headphones or a decent sound system will give the fullest effect of the piece.

IV. Apus “The Bird-of-paradise”

Apus, translating to “without feet” or “sunset”, is a relatively small and inconspicuous constellation in the southern sky. Representing the Bird-of-paradise - appreciated for their beautiful plumage by many cultures throughout human history - the piece evokes the ceaseless flight of the footless bird out from the sunset, longingly soaring into the stars.

III. Pavo “The Peacock”

Dignified and proud, extravagantly colored, arrogant, obnoxious sounding calls - the peacock is a truly absurd creature. With whines and shrieks present through, the jazz-inflected piece shifts between pompous and stately tones, with the inclusion of a satirical pavane midway that evokes the ridiculous nature of the peacock’s courtship ritual dance.

III. Pavo "The Peacock" (2013) - from Starbirds for Cello and Piano

Short fanfare commissioned by the Austin Symphony Orchestra in 2013 to open each concert of the Sarah and Ernest Butler Pops Concerts Series, and express gratitude for their long-time support of the Symphony and recent endowment of the Sarah and Ernest Butler Young Composers Competition.

IV. Apus "The Bird of Paradise" (INMF 2019) - from Starbirds for Cello and Piano

I learned this piece both in preparation for switching my principle instrument to piano from saxophone and because it is one of my favorite pieces in all piano literature. Since I'm approaching my meeting with the piano faculty, I decided to make a recording of myself performing the piece. It's not perfect, but I'm getting to the point now that I can play it top to bottom pretty accurately. I think this is an incredibly beautiful piece; the epilog, around 5:00, is just heartbreaking.
