After reaching critical acclaim on their third studio album, Colour Theory, the Polish duo Catz 'N Dogz has rounded up an intimidating list of remixers to go to town on their body of bits. Recognized for mining the middle ground between house and disco, Jay Shepheard sets his sights on the languid groover, “Stay, and takes it up a notch. Lending the hushed vocals a nice bed of sauntering basslines and gauzy chord stabs to roll around in, his remix is an obvious highlight here.

Scott Diaz has a sizeable discography to his name, so it's little surprise that his latest expansive EP for Grand Plans is a mature and superbly produced affair. Check, for example, the grown-up feel of opener "Mistreated", where heart-aching soulful house vocal samples ride a backing track full of jazz-flecked drums, twinkling music box melodies and yearning chords. The same sort of praise could be heaped onto the languid electric pianos, bumping beats and half spoken, half sung vocals of "Take It Back" (where vocalist KE urges us all to focus on the music, rather than the technology DJs now use), as well as the sample-heavy smoothness of "I Sold My Soul". In other words, it's a luscious EP for those who like their house deep and soulful.

5 Mag Chicago Review:

Scott Diaz is putting his music where his mouth is. Never shy on the topic of a House track's disposability.... you may be tempted to accuse him of being part of the problem. You would be wrong. He is one of today's most prolific producers and remixers, but he doesn't really know how to make a bad record and that counts for something. Yet somehow it's not even close to good enough for him. The push to do even better, to make records that stand the test of time is essentially the mission statement for his label Grand Plans. So far things are going according to said plans.

The Paradox of Principles is the third take-your-pick-of-the-litter, fabulous batch of jazz- and soul- infused Deep House. If you need a good early track that still turns a few heads, this is where you want to look. "Mistreated" in particular exemplifies Scott's thoughtful nature through the music itself, whereas "I Sold My Soul" and "Take it Back" do it more through the use of vocal samples. The latter features another thoughtful producer, KE aka Kid Enigma, with a nice cooler vibe in comparison to his original take. Studioheist get the honor of being the first remixers featured on Grand Plans and their work here is exceptional.

Duo Amine Edge & DANCE impress with two tracks demonstrating their finely-tuned low-end house sound. Hailing from Southern France, Amine Edge & DANCE have built their own musical empire, namely a burgeoning label called CUFF. In their productions they draw inspiration from early House, Phili Soul, Hip-Hop and everything in between. ‘Good Time EP’ does what it says on the tin, but represents the beginnings of a new direction and a stylistic departure from their signature G-House sound. The lead track shows their versatility with a straight-up 4/4 beat along with chop ‘n change vocals whereas ‘F.U.N.K.’ is a more industrial tech-inspired offering, putting a very modern twist on the funk.

Fair pour l’amour: longstanding Lawler’s unstoppable roll this year continues with his fourth release of 2017 so far. Following heavily-supported wounders and wonders on Roush, Robsoul and Turbo comes this cast-iron carnival of a bomb ‘Par Amour’. 
A rolling, drum-drenched groove with Lawler’s late-night signature scorched into every teasing drum fill and layered vocal texture, it’s peak after peak as we charge deep into the dance, driven by the infectious off-beat bass and consistent snare rattle. File under heads-down danger and keep it in that file for entire summer.  
Remix-wise it would be rude not to ask a French artist to add their twist to ‘Par Amour’ and Lawler’s invited the perfect man for the job. Switching Steve’s tight weaves of percussion to his signature slink and jack arrangement, fellow groove veteran Chris Carrier completely flips the construction while maintaining the persistent vocal loop and bubbling bass bounces. Bon remix, bonne sortie, bons moments. Ressens l'amour!

Dario D’Attis makes his Defected debut giving his own contemporary, uplifting spin on two house staples. Dario’s profile on global house music platforms has been on the rise across the last couple of years, thanks to international festival and club appearances and a close working relationship with Defected, including a guest mix on the label’s inaugural Defected Croatia compilation in 2016. Presenting the ‘Sunshine People EP’ on a melodic summertime tip, Dario references the familiar ‘Sunshine People’ refrain on the title track, along with plenty of bass jackin’ and dancefloor-friendly breaks. . Citing another familiar hook, this time remixing a Sandy Rivera classic, ‘I Can’t Stop’ is the more drum-controlled counterpart, rounding off a very well-executed duo of club-ready bangers from Dario.
