There have been so many guests on Soulection Radio over the past years but no one, we repeat, no one has came in the studio so humble, so low key and just murk the airwaves like starRo did. It's crazy to think that this man has been making music for over 15 years and is barely coming to surface to the world with so much heat. We are just glad he is on our team. He played nothing but original production/edits. Hailing all the way from Tokyo, Japan, starRo is an artist who you will be familiar with starting from this point on. Joe Kay of course opened the show for the first hour & 50 minutes on one turntable (one of the turntable's went out before the show started) playing a bunch of heat that he was holding onto since last week. He made sure to make up for his absence last saturday and play some exclusive Carmack, Atu, Kaytra, Esta, Esgar, Jo Def + some other heavy footwork vibes. 

The music just keeps getting more powerful every week. Lets keep progressing shall we?

It felt good to return this week after being out last week. We returned with a lot of inspiration, a great music selection, and a lot on our minds. This week's edition of Soulection Radio features our very own J-Louis! As some of you may or may not know, J-Louis produces all his music on the iPhone (Nano Studio App). He even put out a free EP with us in the beginning of the year entitled "Balanced" (http://soulection.bandcamp.com/album/balanced-ep) which was also produced entirely on the iPhone. This 20 year-old from Azusa, CA is really a special guy who we feel is going to be BIG in the near future as long as he stays on track with his progression.

J-Louis played an exclusive set for a little over 30 minutes with all his recent unreleased productions and then chopped it up with us about his musical background (Drummer since he was 8 years-old & played in a Hardcore band & toured when he was 12) and how he purchased a stolen Macbook Pro (without knowing) to start producing on a computer that was eventually stolen -- forcing him to produce on his iPhone again. What a journey! Joe Kay also made sure to talk about his experience at the Yeezus tour this past Friday and later went into a heavy discussion about rumors of Soulection being part of Free-masonry/Illuminati. Very interesting and informative conversations going on as always.

There won't be a show next Saturday due to the LB State Men's basketball game being streamed on Kbeach during our time slot but we'll still have a selection of music lined up for you to keep you settled. We'll return the following Saturday (12/28) with a special radio session with Kronika, Sasha Marie, and Eden (Ladies Edition). Enjoy.

Jamil who is Drake's touring manager and G-Eazy's co-manager is someone who has reached out to us and showed us so much support. Tunji on the other hand is an army swiss knife! He is an A&R at Interscope and is one of the most humble and diverse A&R's in the game. One of the few that truly understands the sound of tomorrow and is responsible for some amazing connections going on in the industry. Really listen to what they have to say and take notes!

This session was definitely a pre-party to our Soulection 3 Year Celebration! We had a packed house at Kbeach with plenty of good vibes flowing. In fact it was Joe's first time meeting Lakim in person after all these years. This is Lakim's first time out in L.A. so we wanted to make sure Lakim was welcomed properly. We had him drop a quick preview set on the radio show and talk about his forthcoming album "This Is Her" a little. We also had Andres drop a quick set to switch up the vibes, After Andres, we had Sunni Colòn & J-Louis both come on and preview some remixes that we've been putting together. So much talent in one room. Big ups to Marvel Alexander and shouts to everyone who came out to our 3 year Anniversary party. It was massive and hectic at the same time. Stay tuned for our announcement to our new Soulection monthly.

Here we are with our 180th show. What an interesting number huh? Can't wait until our 200th show. Lately i've been on a mission digging harder than I've ever had. I don't know what it is, something about digging for original samples, educating you on it and then playing the newer edits/remixes/perspectives are so appealing to me. I focused on a lot of rare/forgotten Neptunes samples this time along. I remember hearing some of these when I was about 10-12 years old but they didn't really resonate with me. But now they make complete sense and sound better than ever. I sprinkled some new tunes and other OG samples and just had fun with it.


On the other hand, I had my first guest: Hannah Faith who is my label mate. She really been impressing me lately with her mixes and the way she has been branding herself independently with very minimal help from Soulection. I love when people are self-sustainable and can brand themselves on their own. She just got a show on NTS every 3rd Saturday of the month @ 1pm (GMT). She dropped a 40 minute mix full of selects that we never heard before. Pay attention to her.

Ta-ku and I hung out recently when he was in Los Angeles for a couple of days and were able to catch up on life, music, photography (shouts to Eric Coleman / Mochilla), eat tacos, sushi, chill with Esta, Carmack, Mike Gao and play music. I'll never forget this. Before we knew it Ta-ku did a 30 minute set and sat down with me to and talk about everything from his travels, latest business ventures, Artists Envy, Songs To Make Up To, his passion for Men's Grooming, Photography, and much more. Ta-ku is one of the realest and most down to earth people you'll ever meet, he's definitely family. &#13;

I remember starting in the game and not really having anyone who I could go to in the industry or who ran an independent label when we were trying to start Soulection. So when I see or hear about great collectives, I reach out to acknowledge and help because I didn't have that label head mentor 5 years ago!

Over the last 2-3 months you may have heard me name drop this really forward thinking collective/platform called @FlowFi who has some really great upcoming producers/artists such as Fortune. We've been in contact for some time now and even have a few artists such as @mistermack-1 & @fractions-1 (Chris McClenney + @rvdicalthekid)who are connected to both platforms (Flow-Fi & Soulection). 

I've really enjoyed the music that Fortune has been creating lately so I invited him over to play a set & talk about his story + role as a co-founder of Flow-Fi. This guy is only 19 so i'm sure the future is looking very promising as long as he stays consistent to the game. 

Big things ahead for us all.

It's so tight being able to take the show where ever I go. I did the show out of the Hyatt Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia. I was in town for A3C Fest wrapping up my Good Vibes Only Tour. Being able to take the show where ever I go and capture the culture while expressing myself is such a blessing. Shouts to the WERC crew.

This week I had my dear friend and colleague Lakim as a special guest. We did this interview from the rooftop of our HQ in Highland Park! It was definitely good vibes only. We talked about life, his plans, how to deal with writer's block, DMV, why artists/djs should move to L.A., & more.

It's been long over due but we were finally able to get Carmack one on one. He is definitely one of the most forward thinking artists of the new generation. If you produce then there is a good chance that you know who Carmack is. He has inspired many all over the world and has pretty much created his own genre of sound. How many times have you heard another producer make a beat similar to his and say to yourself, "CARMACK"!?

This guy has been a big part of Soulection's growth and history and it felt good to finally sit down with my bro to talk about his growth and current inspirations. We talked about how his move to L.A. changed his life, how he feels about other producers who create music that sounds like his, his relationship with drugs and why he calls his music drugs, when we can expect the next album, and much more.

It's an interesting point in time where Soulection is right now.. we have all the leverage that we need going into 2015 but there is a concern... and that concern is where will the sound direction go in 2015? If you've been to our live shows, you may have noticed a lot of energy and turn up vibes but where is the balance of soul music? This is something that I try to inject and keep in rotation within the radio show. Without soul music there is no Soulection. Can't forget our roots. Your'e gonna hear a lot of classic D'Angelo, Erykah, classics, and overall just good vibes. Someone has to keep the vibe alive.

What a year it's been! This was definitely our year; we put in so much work the past 3 years to set ourselves up for the future and  we wouldn't be here without you. There were so many great releases, tracks, new artists who emerged that it is literally impossible to cover everyone. I went through all of my playlists from this whole year by each month and compiled 220+ tracks. But I was only able to get through 103 tracks. Don't be mad if you were an artist who  had a lot of play on our radio show this year and didn't make the cut... it has nothing to do with it not being good enough.. it was more about just the flow and vibe of this session. 

This isn't your typical best of session where we go in order by EP,s albums, artists.. it's just a freestyle.. no favoritism.. everyone is winning; SOULECTION STYLE! 

We love ya'll and look forward to another great year ahead of us. Happy 2015, be safe out there and we'll catch you Saturday, January 10th with Show #200!! We're taking this weekend off. God bless.
