KaiL Baxley grew up in the small backwater town of Williston in Barnwell County, South Carolina, the birthplace and stomping grounds of the late great soul legend James Brown, with whom KaiL shared an unlikely friendship as a child. “Yeah, James used to say, ‘Boy you bein’ good?’ I’d say, ‘Yes sir.’ He’d say, ‘You know you doin’ wrong! Nah, show me your moves lil’ man!’ And we’d have a little dance off. I’m pretty sure he always won, ha, ha. There’s something about the groove of James Brown that has always stayed with me.”
 
 An accomplished athlete in his youth, winning many amateur boxing titles including, Golden Gloves and The Junior Olympic Regional Championships, the idea of playing music only arrived to KaiL after his godfather, a former band director, bought him a guitar for high school graduation. He never put it down. After years of singing for his supper across the South, Europe and parts of Africa, KaiL found himself in California with hopes of composing music for film scores. A chance meeting with engineer/ producer Eric Corne convinced him to write a record of his own. Within a few months, the two were in the late Elliott Smith’s New Monkey Studio with some of LA’s finest musicians. The result is his debut effort, a double EP drawing heavily on both the literary and musical influences of his Irish/Southern roots.

It’s quite a ride all the way through.

KaiL Baxley - "Boy Got It Bad"

I first heard Benjamin Francis Leftwich last year when I stumbled upon a fantastic remix of his record "Atlas Hands." I checked out his album and was hooked by the soft silty vocals, lyrics, and smooth melodies. His entire album "Last Smoke Before the Snowstorm" is amazing, very highly recommend!! I wanted to try and remix one of the tracks on the album and was really drawn to the groove and hook on his track "Shine."  This remix stays true to the original with smooth beats and bass and soft strings and melodies. I took the photo for this remix while I was hiking around up on a snowy mountain and shot the picture through my amber sunglasses to give it a sepia tone feel.  Its a feel good song which brings good vibes and inspiration. Hope you enjoy the mix, let me know what you think!

Novo Amor - Welcome To The Jungle

Started more seriously in music composition in the mid-1960s with a couple of commissions for documentary film music (one shown on BBC TV), but got married and chickened out of the scene to buy food occasionally. After this, I composed away while 9 to 5 took me to lots of interesting non-musical places. Nowadays I just do spots, write, & facilitate at a small Writers' Group. (My handbook, "New Authors Start Here," uses my Pen Name Godffrey Greatorex.) Musically, I went for tunes that, hopefully, stay in the mind. Some say my 'unmannered' vocals appeal rather more than my playing. They must be right, for my playing is very underwhelming. But I do like that it seems I have some sort of melodic flair which has brought original works to share from time to time.
