Granite Stone Slab vibrates with wet hands, oscillating to the rhythmic grip of the fingerprints, and releasing high and low harmonics and overtones. Performed and recorded at Sharanam Studio in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Recorded with a Blue Yeti microphone 100cm high and 500cm behind the musician in a corner next to a window. Logic Pro Daw with no effects or EQ except for the Darkened Drone which has a bass booster and a low pass filter.

Listen to the drone sitting or laying comfortably with headphones or a quality speaker system and focus on your breathing. Small devices such as phones and small bluetooth speakers are physically unable to reproduce the low frequencies, resulting in a loss of sonic accuracy and potential sensory data.

After I had moved to Kraków, I was starting to ask my self - where is my home? 

The fist part of the recording contains a sound walk in Cieliczanka (the village of my childhood). You can hear soundscape in which I were growing up: bird singing, roster crowing, buzzing of bees. There are also voices of my cousin and younger brohter. The second part was made during travel from Białystok to Kraków. I recorded passengers voices, clattering of suitcases and traveling announcements.

These sounds are giving me hope of remembering of my family and childhood home, and hope for get new memories in my new home.

Where is home?

The recoding starts on underground steps of the Warsaw Central Station, from the side of the Parade Square. I am walking down to platform number two, from which the train to Przemyśl is to leave. 

The footage was recorded at a short time when Ukraine's war refugees who came to Poland were returning at home in the hope of winning against the Russian agresor, to comeback to regular life, of rebuilding their homeland. In hope that they will not have worry about theirs life agains. 
 
Platform two might to be symbol of hope for those one traveler who's returning at home.

The piece present short recordings of various life events and emotional states of the main character. The recording is a sort of internal interview contains: urban and rural sounds, human voices (in polish) and music. At the and is mentioned that hope is crucial for dealing with our ups and downs.

Hopeless

The recording contains a reading fragment (in polish) of the "Proszę państwa do gazu" by Tadeusz Borowski, accompanied by "Song of Hope" composed by Michalina i Ireneusz Socha.
Fragment of Borowski's book is about people's attitudes who's met terrible death in Nazi Concentration Camps, but a lot of victims never abandoned hope and they were dreaming of freedom...

Song Of Hope

The recording was made during a performance of the VIVERO dancer group. They played "Ciało moje" ("My body"). The performance showed critical approach to the western stereotype of women body. 

The recording is related with hope on two layers. Hope for a good performance of dancers, and hope for a change of a women's cultural image.

My Body

The thought of hope brings on my mind the war in Ukraine. 
The War is horrible it self, however I noticed that it caused solidarity between Poles and Ukrainians. In the project I am trying to show growing closeness between people during that hard time. 

The Recording contains sounds of Ukrainian dances, manifestations of support for Ukraine, and my trying to learn Ukrainian.

Hope for Solidarity

At first, when I think about hope, I don't hear any sound. Hope seems to be the silence. But then I can hear hope in everyday life moments.
For me hope is transience. It contains every mistakes which could be corrected and learned on them. Important everyday moments passing away. The feature of the World is fluidity. 
Moments like cooking together with my family before Christmas make me noticed that in little things I am finding hope as changeable and processual, maybe even transitional. As far as I remember all these little moments hope is the beginning as well as the end.

Hope - Capturing everyday life

I come from a quiet and peaceful place, but there is an airport nearby. Since the invasion on Ukraine, the sound of helicopters overflight has become a common disturbing  noise. My hope is that after all of this, the noise will became into silence again.

After Noise

The recording contains a working excavator on a construction site and singing birds. Both sounds were recorded separately, and I overlapped its in studio.
Birds were singing in the forest nearby to a construction site. 
Songs of birds and sounds of the machine I find as metaphors of expectation for the future and the hope.
