This is a protest song against the unwarranted and inhumane Russian Invasion of the Ukraine. “Last Night I had the Strangest Dream” was written in the 1950s by Ed McCurdy, a staple from the folk genre which I sang sang as a child I never thought I would make a cover song out of it one day. Fast forward to 2022 and the aggressive and violently reckless invasion of Ukraine by Russia and the subsequent collateral  damage and unnecessary loss of human life is an outrage. Just as much as is the continuing war and oppression upon Palestine by Israel, or the oncoming Humanitarian Crisis in Afghanistan, or the Ethiopian war and suffering of the people of Tigray region, the horrifying Yemen war and proxy funders,  the Gang-lord anarchy in Haiti, the illegal Military crackdown after a decade of reform in Myanmar and the Islamist militancy jihadist wars raging in the African Continent from Mali to Mozambique. I have been fortunate to have been singing as a child..songs born from the ashes of war or the tears from the millions of cries for Peace.. Today the invasion of Ukraine by Russia and the subsequent and senseless warcrimes have devastated so many lives and highlight the need to support President Zalensky and Ukrainian people, as they push for new reform to those who may feel there  no accountability from War. I pray for the end to tyranny and if you are affected by such horrors of War, then this is for you, the people suffering from War. God Bless! - Lo

Last Night I had the Strangest Dream

This song is about breaking up and having the freedom to do the things which were no longer yours. No more judgements, no more nagging and no more owning your liberty. It’s a tongue-in-cheek nod to the you that may rediscover the ‘you’ in between your last relationship and the one that is to come so look at being single as your opportunity to live and meet yourself again and whatever your ex says is not your problem now.

Auld Lang Syne is my version of the song which is traditionally sung to bring in the New Year and say goodbye to the old year. It is naturally a moment when we take pause to reflect on our limited time on this Earth and can be melancholy as we remember the people we’ve lost, the challenges we face, and our mortality becomes more apparent as we. Turn the page to another year. At the same time, we rebuild or recharge our hope for the future, make promises to  ourselves to learn from our mistakes and look to the horizon, for new possibilities and with renewed positivity at the same time. 

By extension, it is also often heard at funerals, graduations, and as a farewell or ending to other occasions; for instance many branches of the Scouting movement use it to close jamborees and other functions.

The Song originally is a Scots-language poem written by Robert Burns in 1788, but based on an older Scottish folk song. In 1799, it was set to a traditional tune, which has since become standard. "Auld Lang Syne" is listed as numbers 6294 and 13892 in the Roud Folk Song Index.

The poem's Scots title may be translated into standard English as "old long since" or, less literally, "long long ago", "days gone by", "times long past" or "old times". Consequently, "For auld lang syne," as it appears in the first line of the chorus, might be loosely translated as "for the sake of old times."

The phrase "Auld Lang Syne" is also used in similar poems by Robert Ayton (1570–1638), Allan Ramsay (1686–1757), and James Watson (1711), as well as older folk songs predating Burns. Matthew Fitt uses the phrase "in the days of auld lang syne" as the equivalent of "once upon a time" in his retelling of fairy tales in the Scots language.

Min came from a dream.  

￼ In it, I was watching television, and it was a shot over water towards the coast line, and I kept hearing this beat and this arpeggiated line, which now carries through the whole song. It was ghostly, and when I woke up it was about 4 AM. I remember, I was just about to fall asleep, thinking, “I wish I knew the name of that song”.

Some urgency within me sparked, and woke me up to realize that it was a dream, and the song within a dream is usually one we’ve never heard before, but it was so organic and real to me and I heard every part of it. So I jump out of bed and leg it to the studio . That time it was Synchrosound Studios, in PJ, Malaysia. ￼ I’m going straight for that sequence that I heard, and every part the song fit like a puzzle bit by bit as I tried to construct exactly what I had been listening to in what must’ve been just the process within my head. Min means a lot to me and comes from the true spirit of songwriting, without any external interaction influencing its creation. I was born in the quiet of the night.

“ You don’t know where I’ve been; from the max right to the min.”

And that’s how Min was born. I’m still trying to figure out what’s it’s about so let me know if any clues come to you. Thanks..
