Surfin' In The Snow - The Mosrites

Once again, in celebration of a NEW January 1st, I decided to record a NEW song but this time a cover by one of my favorite 90s bands, Superdrag. "Remain Yer Strange" with it's Kinks/Who/60s like energy is off the band's final album (pre-reunion) Last Call For Vitriol. It is one of the rare songs penned and sung by bassist and supporting powerhouse Sam Powers from Who Hit John and Lees of Memory (and really a nice guy too!). His tune (and that beautiful bridge) has been stuck in my head for the past 20 years so I figured why not record a cover to start the NEW YEAR on the right rockin' note! Recorded at Bushwick's Stanhope Cellar Studio (American Darlings' HQ) in one afternoon, drums, Hofner bass, two Starcasters mixed and ping-ponged on a trusty old Tascam 424mkII tape (Love you, Felix! RIP), here's a toast to 2022! Remain Yer Strange...thanks Sammy P!

Last night I dreamt I was in an Abbey Road type studio, when an older man version of Elliott walked in and sat down at an upright piano, and told me 'this is how you play it'...then performed the riff/verse piano melody. I fell asleep in the dream, woke in reality and immediately tracked the piano part over the almost finished demo version of this tune...it's not the son of Sam...but you'll understand...much love and respect to whomever listens. -J

Not The Enemy (4-Track Demo 2022)

Finally sketched out a finished skeleton of this new song "Holding On" (working title) before the full band has at it. Armed with a Tascam 4-track, two guitars, and a 'new' 1960s Ampeg amp (thank you Felix, RIP) this is the vibe we're headed for. Enjoy -JMS

Feel The Way I Do (Take 1 Demo)

Written & recorded (at American Darlings HQ Stanhope Cellar Studios) in Bushwick, Brooklyn after jumping down a Japanese Jazz Fusion rabbit hole, this new original instrumental song "Beckin' Around" took on a more personal tone (literally) after the passing of iconic guitarist, Jeff Beck. Inspired by his mid 70s album Wired, this instrumental guitar track might be the beginning of a new page...and I don't mean Jimmy. Turn it up "to eleven" and relish in the retro resonance! (Shoutout to Wally Jay Mosrite from ElbowRoom Music on bass, keys and the 'warm analog tape' mixdown)
