Welcome to my 'Calm before the Storm' techno mix for TechnoPulse aired on Technoconnection 21st January 2023.
I wanted to start this month at a lower speed but build up to something a bit faster.  So I started with some calmer 133bpm tracks and ended at a nice pacey 140bpm :)
I wanted to keep some melodies in there and make it easy listening. It is Techno, so that isn't always easy.

Psykadelik - PsyTrance Mix:5 Psyber Trance System - Psyber Overload

I was recently blown away by both Niina's (https://on.soundcloud.com/4gfq7) and Big Ry's (https://on.soundcloud.com/syNG7) trance mixes. Trance music has always been very close to my heart, so I was keen to contribute to this mix series. 

If you were a fan of the old reactivate CDs, you may enjoy this. A compilation of forgotten gems from the late 90s / early 2000s. 

Big thanks to BB4L Johnny for introducing me to “open the flood gates”. And to my brother who’s enthusiasm for trance has always been infectious!

One of the things I love about mixing again is that it's never just about the mix I'm recording for here it is everything else around it. The finding new tunes, digging through old ones or earmarking tracks for a mix down the line. 

Just the constant and complete obsession with with music again and I am never far away from it in some way.

This mix was a lot of fun. After Movement & Momentum, Cranky Rat & Murder Music I decided to a go bit lighter. I mean it's still me, so it's never that light. Especially in the the last 1/3 of the mix.

After completing Paintings Of Sound for Paul’s Flight, I wanted to go a bit darker and prepared to embark on a Techno mix style Fry Up from my collection over the years. I do miss the Techno events back in the worlds of old, with it almost non-existent here in New Zealand. 

Nine is the theme from music that this forked off from, JungleTechno. Our night of Techno was most Thursdays at Carl Cox’s Velvet Underground event in London. There are of course a few crazy Ivans in there, I am Captain, it’s expected. It includes a few unreleased Captain numbers that I felt would sit (Madagascar & G&T Rave Up, which I only ever performed live – 10 years ago now). Bootlegging, wrecking, and remixing tracks of many genres in my collection, that I felt deserved an appearance in this darker and more severe Techno Groove. I especially enjoyed salvaging and remixing the 25-year-old tracks in the last 15 mins or so, a real challenge to make these perfect tracks sit 20 bpm slower in a Techno Beat. There was also a live drum and 303 channel over this three-hour journey, and after listening through a couple of times, felt best left pure, and we save these busier skirmishes for the party!

Kaa – My first ever vinyl record was the Jungle Book, so finally I got to mix Kaa into a Techno mix 40 years later. I hope you enjoy this adventure. Hypnotising snake eyes that may change where your journey ends. ⚓

I was down to play a techno set, though had computer disk issues and corruption so arrived 2 hours later than expected.

1:50 Some seemed worn down by the madness and the dancefloor needed pulling back a few notches.
2:45 There’s word a D&B DJ is squaring to go on. I said no bovva, I’ll get em up to ramming speed.
2:59 It takes time to warm up a D&B DJ. So checked the hold for any D&B oldies while the Bass and Drums are aligned for the disco.
3:12 Time to build up for the wasps…. Where’s this DJ? Stage fright?
3:15 Needed a reviver, time for UB40 and a signal to DJ D&B you are on me heartie!
