1993 - 1994 Old Skool Hardcore / Jungle Mix (Mickey B)

Hooded Records starts its podcast series with a special "Darkside" archaelogy mix from unsung local hero DJ Ravingman who is one of the first dubstep djs in Spain, member of the now defunct Spatek rave collective that operated in Catalonia around the year 2000.
 
As the Spanish ‘nuum diaspora is fragmented almost in single dormant cells, the fact is that we actually met him through the many hardcore and jungle facebook groups we follow, and initially not as a dj. The man was always very active in those, showing a vast knowledge and great taste for anything that has amen breaks, dark atmospheres or any other ‘nuum aspect. Until one day we decided to actually ask him if he did deejay and boy that was a great question to ask, which this podcast proofs.  

Ravingman is more than a digger and collector, he is a samurai of hardcore continuum, and has been since a longtime addicted to Darkside. The mix of Ravingman digs deep in old and almost forgotten UK crates to bring back this style, which is a sinister, aggressive and cinematic sound that has been fundamental in the development of drum and bass, dubstep, and basically in any dark rave music created ever since. As for many jungle-hardcore offshoots, the golden era of the style was indeed 92 to 94 and this is exactly what you are getting in our first transmission from the sewers of Hooded Records. 

May you enjoy the fast pace and sonic sadism of this great mix crying under a table and sucking your thumb with your hoodie on, as we do regularly, or directly flee in panic, this is indeed up to you. Just don’t say you were not warned.
