Time for something extremely infectious and cheeky on one of Resident Advisor'sTop 20 Most Charted Of All Time labels: the mighty Great Stuff Recordings. Jason Chance's Zulu Shuffle is an absolute monster of a big room house groove, packed full of energy and unstoppable momentum. Insistent cowbell hits and rolls pepper the super-skippy percussion and pleasingly phat, funked-up bassline in the main section, while the atmospheric interludes lay on marimbas and African chanting aplenty (the aforementioned 'Zulu' input). It's a right toe-tapper this one! And a rumpshaker to boot.

On the remix tip, Ant Brooks ups the techno factor but retains some of the warmth of the original cut, looping the vocals and marimbas up to dizzying effect and injecting yet more percussive energy into the bed of the track. Collective Machine tread down a slightly deeper route, chopping up the mallet sounds with some live snare fills and just a sprinkling of tribal percussion to suave effect.

JEEPERS! Music proudly presents brand new mixes of the classic mid-90s progressive house track ‘Be One Of Us’ by First Life.

Nick Hook and Martin Sharp produced together as First Life in the 90s and 2000s, creating a number of progressive house classics such as ‘Be One Of Us’, ‘Love Bomb’ and the two remixes of Dum Dum’s ‘One Earth Beat’ included on John Digweed’s Renaissance 2 album.
    
‘Be One Of Us’ was massive for both Sasha and Digweed when it was first released in 1994, and was a seminal tune when they toured the USA to spread the British progressive house sound.

As well as continuing to produce together, Nick and Martin have both had successful individual recording careers. Over the years they've had many releases on some of the best house music labels such as FFRR, Distinctive, Om, Hooj, React, Whoop, Loaded, Cream, Zulu, Wharton, Whore House, Phonetic, Pacha, Plastic Fantastic, Limbo, Stress, DMC and many more, not to mention Nick’s label Jeepers! Inspired by a recent Sasha gig in Brighton the boys decided to produce an updated version of ‘Be One Of Us’ for a new generation of clubbers, and the result is a sensational new mix with a tribal tech house groove and an epic breakdown.

Putting together a new remix package for the release posed no problem, with some of their top producer friends chomping at the bit to get their hands on the new remix parts. 

Jason Chance delivers an outstanding full-on tech house stomper that’s sure to send dance floors into a frenzy. Northern Ireland’s Jay Kay weighs in with a really cool deeper house mix. While US-based Cool Gold hits you with a stunning melodic techno mix with dark undertones (Cool Gold is American DJ legend Chris Fortier – who was a big fan of the original tune – and Stephen Wilson aka Rudiment).

When The Dawn Breaks is a huge slab of summery, tribal house goodness. The track builds through oodles of percussive grooviness, cowbells, wooden percussion and big drums doing battle with cymbal rides as incessant stabs pitch higher and higher towards the breakdown. What lies therein is an epic, old skool-tinged crescendo, made all the more uplifting by a mellifluous, reggae-inflected vocal. It drops with an almighty thump, a chunky bass groove driving its core. The Balearic Radio Mix takes the original to even more uplifting heights still.

Belgium's Filterheadz come fresh from another release on Carl Cox's Intec Digital label with a hot remix that takes the track into more underground territories. Their techy groove has funk, and plenty of atmosphere in its brooding, hovering bass tones and huge FX builds and drops. Their remix stomps hard, with vocal chops punctuating the tribal tech rhythms that lie beneath.
