Depuis 2010, selon le Guardian, plus de 6 500 travailleurs migrants ont perdu la vie sur les chantiers de construction de la coupe du monde au Qatar.  

« une filiale du groupe de BTP français Vinci a été mise en examen, mercredi 9 novembre, dans le cadre d’une information judiciaire sur les conditions de travail d’employés sur des chantiers liés à l’événement. Trois chefs de mise en examen visent Vinci Construction Grands Projets (VCGP), présente sur les chantiers qataris depuis 2007 : « la soumission à des conditions de travail ou d’hébergement incompatibles avec la dignité », l’ « obtention de la fourniture d’une personne en situation de vulnérabilité ou de dépendance de services, avec une rétribution sans rapport » et la « réduction en servitude » pour des faits présumés entre 2011 et 2014, a communiqué au Monde le parquet de Nanterre, à l’origine de la décision.
