I started recording the piece at 4.25 in the morning, hence the title. And what I was trying to do was interact with the space through my voice and listening -- a kind of unheard intervention in the roar of the city, which even at this time of the morning is quite loud. I was working to blend my vocalizations with the environment, blurring the boundaries of what was being "performed" by me and what was being happening in the environment. An interaction which had perhaps more to do with listening as much with me making any sounds in reaction to the environment.
