Disquiet Junto Project 0488: Reverse Delay
Assignment: Do something you’ve been putting off.
Since switching to bitwig a few months ago I have been enjoying  being creative within its environment but I haven’t managed to finish anything and post it on line until now.
This track uses several shift register sequences in Bitwig’s grid. It also chops in non verbal speech sounds using HY euclidian sequencer gate.

The moment in time stretches not forward nor backwards and as such it is both inaccessible and eternal. It is out destiny to pass these moments at mind-boggling speed never being able to fixate on a single one.

On The Verge Of Knocking Impatiently

Disquiet Junto Project 0455: Inner Invertebrate. The Assignment: What does a moment (or a day) in the life of a jellyfish sound like to a jellyfish?

I was doing another track, Andromeda Blossoming https://soundcloud.com/winterer/andromeda-blossoming-studio-version, which was originally not meant to be some kind of underwater track and which is made with the App Samplr on iPad with some of my own tracks plus some cc0 field recordings from freesounds. In this track, I more or less imaginated another evolution of 'the andromeda strain', one of my favourite sci fi movies, with its strange "unfolding" effect on the lab screens in the movie.

However, a lot of it's sound seemed to fit to this disquiet, so I removed anything un-jellyfishy and un-underwatery and did some new balancing of the components. This Cassiopea andromeda lives on the bottom of the sea and she looks up to the billowing world above her…

Andromeda Blossoming (underwater remix) [disquiet0455]

I sat down to make music with the intention of finding a way to express my emotions at the moment, and I was confronted with a wall of mental noise, presented to me by all the music technology at my disposal. While I struggled to find my heart, my mind was busy thinking about technology and technique. After a bit of discussion with @dr.no and @Hawthorn, decided to run with that as the concept for the piece. This is the result. 

I decided to also take inspiration from #disquiet0460 and start with a tortured, complicated sound (evocative of the mental "noise" that comes from using music tech for expression) and transitions to the starting point, then returns to the chaos. 

I started with a simple arpeggio on a nylon guitar (which I later changed to a synth sound). Added a Bitwig Micro-pitch device set to an obscure Wilson scale, and added a send track with Output Portal (granulated pitch transformations in this case) & Thermal (more glitchy feedback fx) on it. Added automation to start with Micro-pitch wet, FX send volume, and global tempo set very high, decrescendo, and then re-crescendo, over the course of the track.

For this challenge:
Step 1: Think about how a gradient functions, as one thing transitions into another.

Step 2: Make a short piece of music that aims to explore the idea of a gradient in sound.

As mentioned on a previous junto, lately, when I have time, I’m recycling old masters I got back this summer from a publisher deal, I have dozens of 10 or 15 years old tracks to re-listen, re-work and release or use at will.
For this junto I decided to do a gradient between two old tracks: one completely electronic (synths and treatments) and one acoustic (live in the studio performance with actual musicians and instruments)
It starts with the electro-drone song , and instead of just crossfading volumes between tracks I decided to make my own interpretation of gradient: the second song’s tracks start unmuting one by one, starting with the flute and some percussion, then bass, etc, while the first song’s tracks start fading or muting one by one.
To make things interested, the first song is in the key of Bb major, while the second plays around A major and A minor, so the long middle section of this track, where the mutation happens, is in two superimposed keys, providing dissonance and instability instead of the original track’s clear mood.

Disquiet Junto Project 0465: You Thank. The Assignment: Make a piece of music for someone or something toward which you feel thankful.

The idea was to do something simple, that constantly changes between traditional and modern. It’s made with Caustic for Android (mix & fx in reaper) and some orchestral SF2 files, I think sonatina. I just liked the trombone…

And I would like to thank Marc Weidenbaum for his generosity with his time and creativity.

Disquiet Junto Project 0473: Placebo Effect
The Assignment: Record the second third of a trio that others will complete.

Step 1: This week’s Disquiet Junto project is the second in a sequence intended to encourage and reward asynchronous collaboration. This week you’ll be adding music to a pre-existing track, which you will source from the previous week’s Junto project (disquiet.com/0472). Note that you aren’t creating a duet — you’re creating the second third of what will eventually be a trio. Keep this in mind. Leave space for what is yet to come.

Step 2: The plan is for you to record a short and original piece of music, on any instrumentation of your choice, as a complement to the pre-existing track. First, however, you must select the piece of music to which you will be adding your own music. There are tracks by 68 musicians in all to choose from, 62 as part of this playlist:
