The Jasper Blom Quartet proudly announces the release of POLYPHONY on the highly acclaimed English label Whirlwind Recordings.  POLYPHONY is a double live CD that features the Belgium top trumpet player Bert Joris and the fantastic trombonist Nils Wogram as guest soloists. The original material is all based on polyphony, the musical phenomenon of independent lines creating a unique musical texture that is than used as vehicle for jazz improvisations. In writing polyphonic works for this band Jasper Blom was particularly inspired by the old 15th and 16th century Flemish composers and the early 20th century atonal polyphonic work of Hindemith and Bartok.

Of course, I like playing on big stages, international festivals and with famous people. But part of me really likes to do the opposite, perform in the smallest possible venues. These live tapes were recorded at cafe ZILT on the Zeedijk Amsterdam, which probably can't hold more than 30 people. You can find me there with students of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam every 2nd Sunday in the month. Enjoy!
