Swara Musafir, literally translated as “The Sound of the Traveler” is an ambient musical solo project of Bintang Manira Manik to share his passion about music, cultural diversity and traveling. Living in different countries and travelling for the last decade, Bintang has gathered audio material of various places, cultures and their unique soundscapes. Engaging with local musicians he has explored diverse musical techniques and collected a variety of ethnic instruments. 

By weaving all of those elements into a single moment you are invited to dive into an inner state and elevate your own journey.

Through The Layers

Tabla and the way of learning it, Guru Shishya Parampara, has been documenting compositions from 500 years back by oral traditions, this way of documentations created an internet like web from generations to generations to reveal unique traditional compositions from each states in India. This special excerpt of composition that i bring up is coming from one of the oldest tabla style, Delhi Gharana. 

Preserving tradition also means expanding it. This brings me to the journey of exploring the technology of electronic music merging with traditional tabla compositions. Each tabla parts, the big drum (Bayan) and the small (Dayan) creating an audio signal that triggers some electronic sound(bass, snare drum, and bass drum) in the compositions, this creating a more dynamic rhythm and lively electronic sound for the base of the composition.

Besides focusing on tabla parts, I also recorded some traditional instruments such as setar and morchang and tweak the sound to create another layer of electro acoustic sound in the composition. The least, I looped my free vocal style and collaborate with an amazing Iranian singer, Yazdan Dadbeh, to put the poetry about connections from the past.
